supply of parts

Hello all, I'm an XJ driver and have a 2011 Portfolio. This car is my pride and joy and I have had her for six years now, she has done 65000 miles and no expense has been spared when the usual age issues arise. Unfortunately last week I had a brake problem and went to my service agent as I was loosing brake pressure. It was identified as a split front brake pipe and is now unsafe. Not a problem I thought straight forward job and would get my car back next day. Unfortunately its a Jaguar part and is on back order, who knows how long it is going to be before I get my car back. Has anyone else experienced this sort of poor service for Jaguar parts, I would have thought brake pipes would be something that is regularly checked and restocked.

Welcome to the forum.
Sometimes parts are hard to find... I'm in Australia - I broke a windscreen in September 2022, first one that went in was rippled so it took a month to get another one, it was rippled and took two months to get another one, a year later I got the fifth one installed (off-brand FUYAO) and it was fine. It's part of owning something special.. if you want to be able to replace any part at a moment's notice, Toyota/Ford/etc are for you. If you want to drive a Jag, sometimes it'll sit there waiting for parts.
One thing you can do is contact Jaguar head office in your country and ask for their help, I did this with the windscreen after the second or third one and it did speed things up a bit.

Hello, Derek,
It's an unfortunate fact that most dealerships, and even warehouses, don't keep a supply of spare parts, as the space to store them would be prohibitively expensive. So they all rely on the Factory, which may or may not keep parts back more than 10 years.
Even on the farm, where equipment is Expected to last for Decades, this was beginning to be a problem when I left home over 20 years ago. I can't imagine it's got any better in any segment of any industry.
There are many aftermarket suppliers of almost every Jaguar part, and many of them sell very good quality parts. If you can get the car back it might pay you to ask around. Members of our XJ section will certainly have some ideas.
