Default thinking about it...

New member here, I have my eyes on a 1999 XK8 vert, or a 2005 XKR vert both are near by and reasonably priced. I am just not sure which one yet, the 99 is blue (my favorite color) is beautiful. The 05 is black, not quite in perfect shape, and about $5k more, however, it is an "R"... decisions decisions decisions! Love the site so far, very helpful!

Welcome to the forum bensford, tough choice to be sure, both are great cars, a lot would depend on history and condition.

Welcome. You are comparing very different vehicles. The '99 has the 4.0L NA engine and is technologically a less sophisticated vehicle. The condition of the vehicle is always important, but is it something that a little TLC can correct, then if you can afford the difference and the additional expenditures to restore it to your satisfaction, I would go for the '05. I am a bit biased as I have the SC 4.0L and have driven the 4.2L NA version and the 4.2L is a much improved powerplant.

Good luck on your decision, you will love either one, but I suspect you will enjoy the SC version better!

If you have links to the two vehicles, post them and others can then give more specific comment.

Midlife KJR, thanks for the feedback... I am not sure if either are for real or just scam adds, but the 99 is only $8000 and the 05 is $13,800. This is going to be a weekend toy for a middle class family with a small toddler so I've got to make sure that I don't buy the lemon to keep the repair costs to a min or it will be a garage dust collector... I have yet to even sit in one so I have to see if I can even fit (6' 4" - 270lbs) and if there is room for a toddler in the back seat. A few toys back was a 66 mustang that I had to fold myself into, but I could do it. I have tried to get into some other toys and can't even get in let alone drive/shift.

Saw the 1999 XK8 and it was beat worse than any car I've ever went to test drive... Owner smoked like a chimney so the white leather was all yellowed and cracked, ashes/dust in every nook and cranney, and worst of all every, and I do mean every body panel had scratches, dents, chipd/pealing paint, or a combination of all three. On to some new options I guess...
