Two 2001 XKR's convertibles
Father-daughter XKR owners, hers optioned with the Brembo brakes/BBS 20" wheels. "Common" problems appear almost simultaneously on both Jags and it's good that I'm a do-it-yourself auto repairman. Longest repair was replacing the convertible top latch hydraulic hoses, at least a 6-pack job. Great info on this site to help diagnose failure issues.

Hi Zeecat,
Welcome, new member myself. Curious as to what other "cookie cutter" problems have you seen? I have a 2004 XKR and noticed my conv top hydraulic fluid leaking this week. I've been afraid of using the top and getting the "green shower" that other's have posted about! Was that a tough job?

Hydraulic hose replacement
Hi Crispy,
I found Gus's webpage a great help: Auto Repair
The replacement took about 6 hours mostly since I took it slow. You'll need the top down to perform the replacement. My variation was to detach & lift the carpet in front of the drivers seat instead of removing the seat, also I left the center console installed and pushed the carpet down to access the lines. The line set is secured by snap-in retainers under the rug and near the fuse panel, it takes a little force to remove them. My daughters jag is beginning to leak so I'll be doing a repeat performance. Count on ordering the Pentosin CHF 11s fluid. You can find the parts online. The hose set is HJB8256AB. Other problems repaired: Thermostat, water pump (preventive due to the plastic impeller), serpentine belt pulleys. I did replace the inner rear wheel bearing, a front wheel bearing (special tool required), an pre-cat oxygen sensor (special snap-on socket).
Maintenance items: Trans filter and fluid change.
Your 2004 may have the metal secondary chain tensioners, mine has the second generation plastic type and will be replaced soon.
Later, Bob
