Used but new to me X-type Owner
Just bought a used X-type last week. Always had a thing for Jags and saw it across the street one day when I had my wife's car in the shop because my kid loaded pennies in her CD player. I walked across the street and fell instantly in love. They of course threw the keys at me and urged me to take it for a drive... soI did. Next thing you know I'm driving it home.
So - I keep hearing about how awful the Jag maintenance departments are. Is this really true? I owned a BMW in the past and they treated me like gold at the service department. Just wondering about general experience with this.
A couple of questions. Keep in mind my x-type has a little over 33,000 miles on it so I still have about 17K left on the existing warranty.
1. Oil changes. Should I take this to the dealer to have it done or is it something that I can just have done at the quick lube or whatever?
2. Differentlial fluid changes. When I bought the car it didn't come with an owners manual so I don't have a maintenance schedule. Should this be done soon?
3. Any other preventative maintenance that I should be aware of to preserve thecar besides the obvious keeping it clean etc?
Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions and advice you can give to a newbie.

Welcome..
What year is it?
Regular maintenance is a must for these cars..Stay away from Jiffy lubes and places like that...find a Jag expert to work on the routine maintenance..Dealers are varied as far a service report...Treat them with respect and courtesy and you'll get good treatment in return (most of the time)..After I have my car in for work..I always give the service writer (female) a box of chocolates and the guys that work on my car, a gift certificate for McDonald's..It ain't much, but it shows I appreciate their careful attention to detail..and they take care of me the next time I come in..

JJ, you've done good by getting a car w/ some warranty left on it. You'll sleep a little better at night. If you browse the x-type section of the forum, you'll see the most common problems that you may or may not (depending on year and previous 'care') run across. I take my car to a Valvoline oil change place down the road from my house, and they have always done a good job. They can't (or won't) check the air filter or any other fluids in the car, but they test my coolant, change the filter, add some fresh synthetic, ask me what tire pressures I want, and I am satisfied. So find yourself a good place...not necessarily a dealer activity for your oil change. Also, you're not allowed to post again until you can show us a pic of your new ride. seriously...don't try it. j/k [sm=smiley4.gif]

Welcome aboard JJ...........Check out the FAQ thread within the X type section that details some of the things to look for.
+1 on Dennis and the service dept.............I always made a point of gewtting to know them, remembering their name and having a chat with them. Treat them nice and a little bosx of chocolates / case of beer / bottle of vodka etc goes a long long way I always found. They tend to go that extra mile for you in every dept, a courtesy car is ALWAYS available etc etc...........small price to pay I find!
