Cool What have I done? Newbie XKR-02 Owner. Sweden

Hi All!

Passing 40 its time to either swap my wife or buy a sportscar.
I kind of like my wife so a new car it is.

Not confident enough in my manhood do buy an mx5, to young for a volvo or mercedes and not too furious about BMW or other racers the Jag is "me".

I have read Everything. Knowing what to look for and yet. when she was standing there, just for me. the right colours (dark red metallic with black leather interior and top) at a dealer in another country next to the hotel I just happend to visit. It was destiny. However, a leaking valvecover gasket kept me from just diving her out of there the 900km home, but next week she will arive on a trailer.

As I'm a computer programmer I realy need another hobby so I bought her not only to drive and reading this forum it seems driving is the least I will do with this car.

My first mission is to replace the gaskets, ordered att British parts, and at the same time look at the tensioners. An easy first job I hope as I have not that much experience. I'm counting on you guys and youtube

oh, by the way..

I haven't yet told my wife about the car.. But its ok, I've got a JAG!

Welcome to the forum zecretw,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Sounds like there could be a chance/risk of the double - sportscar and wife swap!

Leaking cam cover gaskets are more a nuisance than any risk of damage but you are aware of the tensioner issue and that is an engine killer.

It sounds like you probably already know your way to the tech section but if not, follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/
to find other members in continental Europe.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Many of us feel as you do, the Jag was simply made for us.

It's true, much of what one reads on these forums is about problems because when something is wrong people need help. One seldom reads about driving experiences, so it's easy to assume we work on our cars more than we drive them. For some that might be the case, but speaking for myself, my car might be down for a a day or two while I fix something, but I'm DRIVING it every other day the weather is good! I just don't report those days.

I have driven many cars with leaking valve cover gaskets, and although a bit messy on the engine, that never kept me from driving the car. You'll find lots of help here.

Welcome from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum.

Nice to see another Scandinavian here.
If you live in southeren Sweden. Joe's Garage outside Malmų is a good independant if you should need it.
If you do some maintenance yourself, JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System) and JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog) are downloadable from this forum.
SNG Barrat has an excellent parts catalog which may be ordered free.
These cars are very dependable despite all the problems you may read in this forum. Treat them nice, and they will be very rewarding just like women.
They also make you stand out from the crowd with all their Bimmers, Merces and Porches.
Timeless design by the late Geoff Lawson. British engineering at its best.
