X Type No Sound

X Type No Sound
I have a 2005 X Type VDP edition. It has an Alpine premium sound system with an AM/FM radio and single CD in the main console and a 6 CD changer in the trunk. Without any indication of problem I suddenly am not getting any sound. The screen on the console displays the AM and FM radio when in that mode. The single CD player shows on the console display and looks to be playing a CD. When I switch to the 6 CD changer it does not show on the console display. The changer cartridge ejects Ok so I am assuming that the CD changer is operating. The few people that I have talked to seem to think that it is an amplifier problem. My problem seems similar to the one posted by mikelwms. What I have seen in the forum threads indicate that the amplifier is in the trunk. I would just like to get some confirmation that it is an amplifier problem before I take it in for repair. I live in Alaska and do not have access to a Jaguar dealer.
Thanks for your help.

kanu, the amplifier in the trunk is only for the subs. The main speakers are powered off of the head unit itself and then the different frequencies are separated by filters built into the speakers.
The first check that I would tell you to do is to hit the "MUTE" button on the steering wheel and see if that brings back the music. Next, make sure that the phone feature is not turned on. Both of these will allow the radio to appear to work, but give you no sound. As you hit the buttons, you should see the front of the radio change indicating that the buttons have been depressed. If you still don't have sound, then it is very likely that there is an internal problem with the radio. But, before you replace the radio, do a resistance check of the midrange speakers to make sure that you don't have a bunch of blown speakers. I'm not doubting your ability to hear if each speaker is working, but people in the past have sworn all their speakers worked and had the same problem as you just to find out that the speakers were all blown.
