Default X305 XJ12 from Central Illinois

Hiya! I just bought (but haven't picked up yet) a '95 XJ12 with a little over 40k miles on the clock. I'm a car buying addict, in 30 years of driving I've had 18 cars, but hopefully the smooth siren song of the legendary Jaguar V12 will finally be my forever car.

Also in the garage at the moment is an '85 Porsche 928 that I've been "rebuilding" for the past 10 years. "Rebuilding" as in I took it apart for 2 years, then spent the next 8 looking at all those pretty engine pieces. Also currently rocking a '63 AMC Rambler station wagon with the great- great-grandaddy of the also-legendary Jeep 4.0 I-6, the Nash 195.6. The most recent departure to make room for the Jag was a '16 Chevy SS, the one imported from Australia with the 6.2L V8 and a manual transmission.

I almost bought an X308 XJR many many years ago, but the timing wasn't right. Have always regretted it, and when this X305 came along at what I thought was a screaming deal (but waiting to see how much it TRULY costs...), I thought maybe I could turn back time a little and make up for the lost years.

Anyway, I've requested a credit limit increase on my gasoline card for the 2100 mile fly-and-drive back from the Pacific Northwest. And yes, AAA membership is current.

G'day Tungsten,

Wellcome to the smooth world of V12 motoring. Nothing beats driving a well sorted Jaguar V12 and they are not that thirsty. There are plenty of helpful and knowledgable people on the X305 forum and if you have a look around you will find links to pretty much all the manuals you will need.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Some interesting beasts in that fleet.

The V12 "bug" will get you, and you will be be doomed, trust us on that.

Good luck.

Hello,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar V-12!
However, those who Know those engines say the very best thing one can do for them (or any engine for that matter) is to RUN them. So, a 30 year old Jaguar with only 40k miles on a V-12 is almost criminal neglect.
"They" say, Cars are a lot like people in that they'll rust out before they wear out if not properly cared for, exercised regularly and allowed to kiss the red line once in a while, unless they're so loose that the pistons try to swap holes.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

She arrived! I don't know how the transporter made it from Portland, OR to Illinois in 2 days, and maybe I don't want to know. But now for the fun stuff.
