Xkr engine failsafe mode

I have a 2001 XKR. It runs perfect. However last weekend while driving on the freeway first the interior lights went out, then the exterior lights. I pulled to the shoulder and the engine quit as well. I turned off the ignition, re-started (no indications, all normal) and drove home.
The next evening we went to dinner - no issues. Then after dinner, started the car and got 'Restricted Performance' and 'Gearbox Failure' several times, then it was normal and drove home. Later in the evening I got 'Engine Failsafe Mode' and the car would not start. Tried multiple times. Returned in the morning, started normal and drove it home. Just returned from a trip and getting 'Failsafe Mode' again and it won't start.
As I said, it runs perfect - IMO obviously something electronic has started acting up.

If these cars (I have a 2002 XKR and a 2010 XKR) have a battery that is not putting out full voltage, at least 12.7v, you will get all sorts of warnings, even unrelated ones. First thing to do is to have the battery tested. If it's low and can be charged back to full charge, it should take care of the problems. If it's low and can't be charged fully, it's time for a new battery. If it's fully charged, then have the codes read and find the source of the problem.
