XKR Portfolio Wheels
Has anyone heard any problems with, or might know why my beautiful BBS 20 inch chrome plated 2007 XKR Coupe Portfolio Edition wheels have started pitting and discolouring where the chrome plating appears to be lifting? I've asked Jaguar to fix them but they say it's not warranty. The local dealer says they can't be repaired and recommends respraying them to look like alloy wheels. Any better advice?

Hi JJ, welcome to the forum, sad to hear about your problem. I would guess that you could go down the route of having them stripped and then re chromed, with a specialist plating company.
Lord knows how much it would cost, compared to replacing.
A quick Google search with "chrome plating in Hertfordshire UK" reveals a plethora of results.
Or maybe check out motorcycle restoration specialists.
And my answer is about as much help as a chocolate fire guard. LOL

wheel finish problem 08 xkr
Jim, I read your post with interest as I am having problems with the finish on my 08 xkr portfolio wheels. I purchased it pre-owned from a dealer and only recently discovered that all 4 wheels had been refinished since the paint is peeling off. In my research I discovered a settlement with VW owners whose BBS wheel finish was damaged by the brake dust on certain models with higher end optional breaks. There is chatter among Audi owners with the same problem. Your description of white spots and pitting matches theirs. The service writer at a Jaguar dealership reported to me that they have only had 1 car affected so far but there must be more as the Jaguar corporate rep had to be called out to inspect my wheels before they would comment on warranty coverage. Interesting ... It has been a while since your post. What is the outcome?

Oh one other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.
Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.
I have been looking into refinishing the chrome wheels and I found that if they are not chrome plated the price is reasonable. However, if they are chrome plated you may need to sell your first born to pay for the re-chroming. I wish you luck with Jaguar!
