On the road again making music with my friend(XJ6)
Don't you love feeling when you finally turn the key after pulling half your car apart, and your machine fires into life first time! Must have got it right.
Drove it 112 km road test,no leaks,no complaints. Must be all good, except the exhaust manifold stud that broke off 3 ft/lbs light of the setting. Just pretend that didn't happen and hope for the best(had to be the last nut on the whole job to be torqued, lol.) I'll fix it next time. The very back one witch will require head off to get a drill and easy-out in.
And that very last vacuum pipe connector that falls apart in your hand when putting it back on,a home made one will do for the rest of its life.
Now for that XJ6 water pump.

There's nothing easy about an easy out. Do you have/use a reverse cut drill bit? May save you the trouble of actually having to use the easy out. Sometimes, if you're lucky, the stud will turn right out just by using the bit. I just removed 3 broken bolts from my LT1 heads. I welded castle nuts to them and turned 'em right out.

Fast idle on start up
Just this week I have developed an idle issue. A bit suspect it is only 2 weeks after removing fuel rail and intake manifold.
17 years and 220,000 km,first issue in this dept. On cold start up idle is jumping to 1500 rpm(usually 1000=1200)and dropping to 800 after about 15 seconds,in drive around 800 also. Drives perfect, but if you blip the throttle at the lights it jumps to around 1200 then slowly drops back to the normal 800 and will hold there as long as you want, but touch that peddle and it takes about 10-15 seconds to slowly drop back to 800rpm.
So I thought maybe a bad connection to the TPS sensor or IAC valve from my putting it back together, but after a check all seems good there.
Next step maybe a vacuum leak, could nor hear one with the stethoscope. So had to resort to the old smoking the engine procedure. No sign of vacuum leaks that way either.
End result,.Not a biggie,just annoying.
Move onto XJ6 for some fun with the water pump.

We have decided to part ways
After 9 months of shuffling cars around on a daily basis to accommodate the Jag,
I(we) have decided to part with my Jeep and "her indoors" Mazda to buy a 2012 Cherokee KK 3.7 ltr V6(that is the current plan anyway). This will become the new family run around. We were talking about buying an S type to replace the Mazda, but that still leaves the problem of an unused 4x4 and a parking problem.(got to have a 4x4,so it may as well get used daily)...second jag will have to wait a bit. When my son wants his own car he might want the XJ6 so I can get that 420G or a restored series 1. Then the parking problems will start over.
It will be a sad day when the XJ(Cherokee) goes, but it is a practical decision. I won't be at all attached the newer Jeep so the XJ6 will score the prime parking spot. The sun is already killing the rear seat belts and top of the rear seat, all faded in the last 9 months.
I don't care if I park 2 year old Jeep on the street, but really struggle with leaving my 19 year old one outside....strange but true.

New arrival tody
I picked up a 2011 KK Cherokee today to replace the two cars I am selling.
Drove a hard bargain and almost stole it off the poor fellow. $11,300. Doe's need some TLC though, this guy just drove it and didn't tidy it up.
I had to remove his rubbish from the boot and floor when I got it home. What sort of owner doesn't even clean a car before selling it.

As for what kind of person, you said it yourself, this car is unloved. Such a person as that takes no pride in anything.
I can understand no maintenance, but I don't understand driving a garbage scow on a regular basis and doing nothing about it.
Hopefully the New Jeep will serve you as well as the Old One did.
Did I mention, That's a Very Nice looking Jeep!

Left out in the cold
Left on the front lawn with a for sale sign in the window instead of hooking up the camper and taking the family to some remote part of Australia must be a shock to the system.
It's been to Alice Springs, Uluru, Broken Hill, Cobar, Bourke, Darwin, Mt Isa, White cliffs, Birdsville, Cape York, Fraser Island, Long Reach , Kakadu, Done the Birdsville Track and the Gunbarrel Highway.
And tomorrow it is keeping the camper trailers spot warm on the front lawn while we pressure test the newby.
