Result!
Auto electrician came yesterday and soon found two faults.
A bad connection on the earth lead to the solenoid had broken where the wire had been split for an alarm system in the past.
In a way that's as I expected, a broken wire.
After that the engine turned over on the button and we both felt good.
3rd press of the button and its gone dead.
It turns out the new solenoid had a bad solder connection which was on/off by moving the spade connector.
Luckily i had the original solenoid which he tested and it was fine. After i refitted the old solenoid it was 100% sorted.
Bike turns over well on the button.
He also gave me the details of a bike and scooter tuning shop where they have a dyno.
The carbs and pod filters need setting up with the V&H pipes.
I'm a very happy fella today
o1xjr, whats happening mate? any progress?

Every part is placed in order or labelled so if I'm away from the garage for a while I know exactly where I'm at. Her indoors calls it ****,
I just say organised. Note the wet floor in the pic.

I had 7 motorcycles in a 11 foot x 20 foot garage a few years ago. Was too cramped.
The spark came round last weekend and saw my bike.
He found two faults fairly quickly. One was a break in the wiring harness as I thought.
Someone had spliced in a for an alarm connection and then badly remade the connection and covered it up with shrink wrap.
The other fault was a badly soldered connection on the new solenoid I bought.
So the engine finally turns on the button now.
Got a jerry can of full fat Shell 99 Ron petrol today.
Just got to refit the gas tank and its fire it up time.

o1xjr, lets just say you're garage isn't too shabby mate
Here's another recent photo of my latest project.
I got the damper in a bargain bucket near the door of a bike parts shop. Its for a Z900 and came with no fitting details.
So I reckoned it would be ok on mine.
I'm excited to hear the 4 into 1 V&H pipes now.

I always loved the sound of a KZ 900, or 1000, with a 4 into one header. The header of choice in the late 70's was a Kerker. Add shorty K&N Filters, slightly wilder cams, rejet the carbs, and you could break 150 MPH pretty easily. It probably helped that I only weighed about 115 lbs soaking wet back then. The bike didn't even know I was there, except to work the controls!

Back in NZ in the 80's we used to run a Sager System short exhaust, just a baffle and no muffler. They sounded awesome and passed Warrant of Fitness.(MOT)
Not sure if they improved performance at all but having any 750 when 15 or 16 was good enough.
All my GSX's had them. The shorty exhaust seems to popular again these days. (here anyway)

The Kerker are very similar to the V&H on mine, except Kerker are usually mat black, mine is chrome.
But on WeBike, if I look up exhaust systems for mine its got loads of different pipes from £300 up to £3000 titanium systems.
The ZR1100 does 130mph as a stock, maybe nearer 140 with the mods I've done.
But I think you would be pretty deranged to try and pilot one at those speeds.

Yep That's the sound! It didn't really matter which brand bike, as all inline fours with a 4 into one, pretty much sounded the same. It was the fact, that I was the Kawasaki Mechanic in Kankakee Illinois, when I was 18, and got to ride a lot of great bikes mostly Kawasaki's at that period of time. Life was good!

Sounds like the perfect job when you're 18.

I've said it a million times. If I could make as much money working on Bikes, as I do working on School Buses, I sure as heck wouldn't be working on School buses, as they aren't a lot of fun to test drive! God I miss working on bikes. Anyone remember, or have one of the old Kawasaki Triples??? I've ridden a 350, a 500 H1, and the 750 H2. The H2 had been owned by a guy that was professionally racing a KZ1000, to which he had added a turbo charger. He traded the H2 in on a new KZ1000. It was bored 100 thousandths oversize all 3 lungs, the cases had been polished as it was a reed ported engine. The heads were shaved to raise the compression, and it had Denco expansion chambers. It was impossible to kick start. The compression was so much you couldn't kick it past the first cylinder, to even get to the next one. If you put it in 2nd gear run along side it jump on, and dump the clutch, it would start instantly. Then the fun began. it was nearly unridable. It would wheelie, while spinning the tire hard enough to smoke it, and never drop the front tire, all the way through the first 3 gears. It all depended on how far forward, you leaned when you took off. The least little mistake, and things could go from bad, to worse in a millisecond. It was also scary light up over 120 mph, it felt like it wasn't hardly touching the ground, Man it was a lot of fun!

Dr Phill (forum member) came over for a beer today, he has been my mechanical advisor for the last 30+ years. Measured all the tollerances, bore, pistons, rings are all good but the head needs some attention. I will get the ball rolling on the engine in next couple of weeks.
I did a you tube apprenticeship on plastic welding and bought a $10 butane torch and $5 worth of ABS welding rods off ebay (to find out later cable ties work just as well).
Panels and fairing repaired and all should be ready for paint in a couple of days.
