C8 Corvette Reveal 7/18 8pm

Not a good idea to flip mass-produced cars.
Might work for a very few rare Million $ cars.
But for these mass-produced cars, you'll take a huge depreciation as soon as u drive it off the lot.
A 6 month old C8 with 5,000 miles on her will probably depreciates by $10K.
I personally wouldn't buy from you at sticker, when all the hoopla is gone.
So it'll be mid to end of 2020 by then, dealers probably will be discounting them since it'll be close to end of year & new 2021's are on their way...

I agree with AJ16er if that was OK with your dealer. Least risk. I really don't see you have any trouble re-selling the C8 though.
Selling the allotment means the buyer gets to spec it all out themselves and you are a lot less hands on.

I successfully flipped a SmartCar when they were introduced and people were on a 13 mo. waiting list to get one. I cleared $2100 even after paying the 8% sales tax. The anticipated lead time for the first of the C8s should make flipping fairly easy and lucrative.

I may lose some money but I very much doubt it. I do plan on driving it some, then selling it. Maybe a mistake for me...the first 2020s absolutely will be a collectible some day. But I'll take the thrill of being one of the first, and then making a nickel.

I'm looking forward to seeing the picture of the car you get! I'm getting a kick out of some of the coverage. One of the recurring comments is that the butt of the car is too big and is that way so it can hold two bags of golf clubs which was the same complaint the original XK8 got. I don't see it in the Corvette but I agreed with that comment with the XK8. That car would have looked so much better with a smaller rear end. But, damn if that huge trunk wasn't useful on a trip.

I'm likely 2-3 years out as well.
I'm with you, I'm not likely to be a 1st-year buyer more likely 2nd or 3rd as well. I expect they'll have the rear better sorted by then and I'll want one of the higher-performing options as well.
[QUOTE=Burt Gummer;2102067]Poor Supra buyers. They get ugly and slow.
Probably a buyer in 2-3 years, performance model. The more advanced tech and driver-centric displays being very desirable.

Went to the L.A. Auto show yesterday with a number of Jaguar forum members and maybe because the white Corvette sitting under the huge fluorescent fixture above it made it look glowing lavender, I was not a big fan of the styling, especially the rear end. I think it would have looked better in a rich, darker color, and could have grown on me a bit.

Guys out there selling their C8s now. Some I've seen making a $10k-$25k profit. I've never been part of the first in line crowd willing to take the HUGE depreciation hit. Three, four years down the line I'll probably be a C8 owner. A used, mint example that someone else has put a lot of money into; Whipple, etc.

Still very happy with my 2016 R, but a convertible C8 Z06 could definitely be a replacement down the line.
