It's a nice car... On it's own.
as a "re-imagined" XKE?
Sure, some styling cues are present to hint at such a lineage, with the mirrors, the exhausts and the spoke wheels but... This doesn't look or sound like an XKE.
First of all is the price.
An XKE would set a college student back by a bit in the 60s, but it wasn't unobtainable on such a budget. It was cheap. This honestly more than twice the price of a Rolls Royce, by a lot.
The other thing is, is that the XKE had such a form to it that you can't give a proper analogy to it. Rather It is the analogy you give to everything else. It's long nose, it's graceful rear, every line on it was what you judged every other car by, and unfortunately, this attempt to modernize the XKE look fell short.
The lights dont look right,
the rear is too abrupt and trying to be angular,
the holes in the sides look like they're from a mercedes 300 sl,
the hood isn't long enough,
and perhaps worst of all is that spoiler & bumper on the front of the car that interupts what would've been the classic front shape of an XKE.
And the performance isn't XKE, either. 600 horsepower? And something tells me this is going to be a lot bigger than an XKE, too.
Don't get me wrong, this car is still beautiful. It's still quite something, even if it might be something of an acquired taste, but a re-envisioned XKE? No. I'm sorry, but this falls very, very short of being an XKE. This is as much an XKE as Dodge's new charger is a charger.
This is honestly just about more of a jaguar XKE than this car is: Marcos TSO GT review - Top Gear - BBC - YouTube
