friend,
Jaguar North America is a Distributor, it does not manufacture or name Jaguar models, only Jaguar Cars Ltd. does, and they are in England.
Isuspect theSerial Number in your car may have been altered. I also suspect the Title and Registration havebeen altered, (not difficult to do) the same way they altered the car itself.
There's no science to this, your car was simply chopped in two, and shortened.
the Weld lines are the best scientific evidence you can go by. Normal cars do not have weld lines across them. But if you do not want to believe what your eyes tell you, why don't youcontact Jaguar Cars in England? That way you can confirm with the factory.
Let us know what they tell you.

Hi 1988, I'm not sure if this helps or confuses the issue. You may already have seen this, I'm not sure.
Have a look and see if anything matches up.
Bertone had previously produced several Jaguar-based proposals which were not taken up by the company.

CXV, I don't think that XJ40ish was trying to insult you. He was simply pointing out the facts. It's no collectors item and paying for it as so might have been a not so wise investment. Regardless, I think it looks nice and if the quality of the welds is good, then you have a very fast car. That thing can't weight more that 2500lbs. and it has to have around 300-330 HP. That's more HP per pound than any Jag EVER made.

There's no science, your car was chopped in two...lmao busted out laughing.
1988 don't come on a forum and try to make us look dumb, if you combine everyone on here's knowledge we probably know evrything about Jaguar, and we all know there's no such thing as a CXV, that doesn't even sound like a name jaguar would give a car in 88, and we all know nobody at jaguar would build a car so heinous

Jose; thank you for keeping an interest in my query. Let me say up front that I have already taken your advice, to contact Jaguar Great Britain, on this matter as per your earlier suggestion. I feel as if I must differ with you on a few points of opinion in your last reply; you have stated more than once that you suspect that the title and registration has been altered. You have further elaborated that you think that this is an easily done process. I must differ with you on this pivotal point. It is impossible to do either of these easily, especially on the title. Both, altering the VIN number on the car or attempting to alter the title are crimes in this country. Secondly the VIN plate and title are issued by our government when the car comes into this country they would have been provided by Jaguar of Great Britain at time of import. Thirdly, these illegal actions of alteration you keep stating are easily done. This is not so. The alteration of both car and title are in fact near to impossible in this country. If you know of a way that this criminal act can be done “easily†I as well as other readers would like to hear it. Many a clone Shelby Mustang owner with a ordinary title, I am sure would like to “easily†turn their car into a titled Shelby, or a standard Plymouth Barracuda into a Hemi – cuda, both of which would increase their value by over a hundred thousand dollars or so; given that their cars appeared to have the correct options. For you see that the only thing that makes these cars what they are, is the pedigree of the title and the VIN identification plate. As we all should know, any car is identified by the VIN and title relating to each other and more importantly what that title tells us it is. This is the criteria that any appraiser bases his valuation on, is the car the same as what the title tells us. Therefore, when you say these things have been “easily†altered I must logically and strongly disagree. You have offered no proof as to how easy this act is done. The reality is that it can not be done at all, or only with great effort, period. Have you or any one else in this forum ever actually known any one to alter their title as well as the physical VIN plate on the door pillar, which by the way, is required by the United States at time of vehicle import. I am also told that the car is inspected by customs to verify it to be what the title says that it is. So in wrapping this up I respectfully disagree with your thought to brush this car aside as not being a Jaguar company project, yes of course the car has been shortened but so were the Hess – Eisenhardt cars, which if I understand the history of, were done by the direction of corporate Jaguar. You all appear to blindly ignore the title and the VIN. To state that these are easily altered is to ignore reality, it might make my car easier to snobbishly dismiss, but the Occam’s razor test would tell us that the car is what its title tells us it is, Jaguar, 1988, Model CXV, Identification SAJBN xxxxxxxx0076. So thanks for the help but please don’t mislead anyone in to believing that titles and VIN plates can be regularly or “easily†altered, for it should be obvious to anyone that in this country it is a hollow argument at best. Thank you Jose

For the interest of any one reading these postings, this car is not something thrown together by an “idiotâ€, as stated before the fabrication of all of the undercarriage, sheet metal, doors and targa – top appear to be factory quality ; as to its safety I have recently scrutinized a Hess & Eisenhardt convertible and it would appear that my sheet metal alterations are superior in factory appearance than the model I inspected.

What I would do, is to go to CARFAX, and spend the money for a report which will tell you if such a VIN exists, or if it is a modified VIN.

If you'd like, post the vin number or PM me with it and I'll do a Vin check on carfax for free, but hurry because I think my months' membership is almost done.
