Default 2002 BRG XK8 Conv $11,500

A co-worker recently told me about a 2002 XK8 convertible they need to sell from his sister's estate. They have dropped the price to $11,500. It is British Racing Green with tan interior and top. He says it has 39,800 miles on it and is in nice shape. I haven’t seen the car myself and don't know any more about it other than it is at his house in Snohomish, Washington. If you are interested, call Jeff at 360-568-6958. Please don’t bug him unless you are serious (he's dealing with a lot of stuff right now).

Thanks,

If you really want to help promote the sale, and its not too far away, some lovely pics of the exterior and interior would go far. A 2002 MY is a big selling point.

Matt - Why is a 2002 MY so desireable? I've kinda decided against paying much attention to it as I only looked for 2003+ when I got mine. I have to admit that my wife did raise one eyebrow when I told her this car was British Racing Green. Had to remind her that we already have 4 flippin' cars and a minivan.

Hey larry, I only meant that of the 'affordable' xk8/Rs (1997-2002), where it jumps considerably to the 2003 MY, the 2002 had the last generation tensioners, and IIRC, the water pump, so the engine is solid. The transmission still relies on the ZF 5hp24, which is more common to a drum failure. If you didn't already have the 2006, I'd recommend picking it up. If it were me, I'd find little interest in owning TWO xk8s...both convertibles nonetheless. You've got a great stable right now, pretty much inline with what I am striving for...a second 4-door sedan...maybe the 04 style XJ8 also...but now I'm starting to flirt with the new lincoln mks hybrid as my 'lux' car. 41city/37 highway...and in style We'll see how fuel prices are next year when this xk8 is paid off.

'preciate the sage advice, Matt. Every once in a while a fella needs a reality check. I'm the kind of guy who always hates to pass up a deal, and I think this is one. I'll ask Jeff to get a few pictures so I can post them here.

Thanks again.

How big a problem are the Gen 1 snafus, tensioners etc?

And is there anyone that can check the car out or a pre-buy service that can eval the car? Tough to be grieving and having to liquidate at the same time-not looking forward to my turn at it.

Jeff told me that if anyone wanted to have the car checked out, they should call him (360-568-6958) and he could recommend mechanics in his end of town if the prospective buyer doesn't know one. He would take the car there, but would expect the buyer to pay for the inspection.

I have to say, this is a great price, even if the tensioners and water pump need to be done at some point. I won't say how much more I paid for my 2000 a few years ago (of course they are pretty scare up here, so I overpaid a little when the perfect car in the perfect color popped up almost in my back yard)

OK, Jeff e-mailed some pictures of the car to me. They are fairly small but you can get the overall picture. Also, his family is not happy that he lowered the price, so he's gone up to $12,500. He almost sold it to a neighbor for $13,000, but decided he did not want to see his sister's dream car sitting across the street everytime he came out of the house. Can't say as I blame him.

So what's the cost for tensioners and any other normal foibles on Gen 1 4.0's that might need doing down the road?

This is not my car, but I've posted it for a friend. Take a look at the first post in this thread and you will find his contact info.

Default OK, He's Getting Anxious

My buddy just told me that he is probably going to sell this thing to a wholesaler tonight. I really think someone could get it for under $11,000, but you'd better get with him PDQ. Again, I have no stake in this, except that when it's sold, the temptation to get it for myself will be gone. Also, I don't think you can get any records from a Jag dealer unless the original owner tells them it's OK.

Cheers,

As a point of reference, here is a similar car that sold recently for more than double that asking price.

I have an Xj6 so not intimate with this type of Jag but it looks like a nice car for the price.

Default Sold

Well guys, y'all missed out. Jeff sold it a friend of mine last night for $10,000. His wife decided she looked really good in it.

The bad news is: I may find myself working on another Jag (just kidding).

The good news is: I'll try to recruit him to the Forum.

Cheers,

Yeah. I kept telling him that if it was a 2003 I would have bought it in a heartbeat for 13K. At 10, I was sorely tempted. At least I know where it is, and if Jim (or Ginger) gets tired of it, it may come around again. I know he'll take good care of it. He's that kind of guy. And BRG is hard to find. By the bye, 2003+ works for an XK8/R, but if you want the aluminum body on the XJ, go for 2004+. IMHO the pre 2004 styling is nicer, but our 2005 XJ8L is just an amazing ride.

Keep lookin' and good luck.
