Did it break at start-up, and have you done anything to verify the condition of the valves?

The timing belt broke while the car was going up a big incline. I had it towed and my mechanic called me this morning and told me what the problem was, and that the rest of the engine looked great. Then he told me that I still had the 1st generation tensioners. So might as well replace everything.

i would definatly have him check the valves, as there is no way to tell if they are bent by just looking at the engine, or the top of the head for that matter.

it would be a shame to spend all the money and time just to find out you have bent some of the valves.
