01 s-Type 4.0 V8 misfires P0303 & p0304 after COP & plugs have been replaced
I've got an 01 Stype 4.0 V8 that the spark plugs have been replaced and I just recently replaced #3 and #4 COPs due to P0303 and P0304 codes. It also had a P0300 random/multiple misfire on friday but this one has not returned since the COPs were replaced yesterday. I drove it again a little while ago and it runs perfect when cold. You have to run it hard down the interstate, drive around town alot before it will make the light stay on. The more it is driven it seems to be worse. You can crank it up and run it to operating temp. and will never goof up until it is driven. It is worse at lower RPMs(less than 3000) and when you return home or get it in town at a stoplight idling you can clearly hear it missfiring. It did take longer for it to goof up after the COP replacement. any ideas???

Misfires Again!
Don't feel bad, this problem is not unusual!
See http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=882939

The misfires on cylinder 3 on a V6,and cylinder 4 on a V8 are on the L-bank of Engines, it is usually caused by water rolling into the spark plug boss of those cylinders, the water will roll along the ignition buss lines into the COP cover in the rear.
Use plenty of RTV silicone sealent for the rear of the COP covers.
It's amazing two engines, but the same water problem!
The Cowl in front of the windsheld will also divert rain water onto both of these engines.
I actually designed my own, and been driving without COP covers for years, should of sold it to Ford, If
TA. TA. is interested, you can buy my Jag for the fix.
The Lincoln LS , had a recall for there cowl years ago, not sure about the COP covers.

It's not you fault, you wanted the physical cylinder layout, not the firing order.
1) Fix the water leaks, it's about a $10 fix.
see http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=893556
2) Only replace COP's, and plugs as needed.
3) Reset codes, after a COP replacement, and start with a new drive cycle.
