Default 04 STR with Magnaflow exhaust system

Hey guys; Just thought I'd let you know my new exhaust system is working fine, not too loud and feels (seat of the pants) like substantially more power. Here is what I installed:
Exhaust tip (2)-Magnaflow part # 35190$73.23 x 2=$146.46
Resonator (2)-Magnaflow part # 11226$63.05 x2=$126.10
Muffler (1)-Magnaflow part # 11386 $80.29= $80.29
"X" pipe1Magnaflow part # 10791$67.86 =$67.86
Cat Conv (2)-Magnaflow part # 54976$65.83 x2=$131.66
All parts ordered from www.performancepeddler.com

I now have sound clips, but they are in .avi format which is not one of
the attachments allowed, so if you want to hear 'em, send me your e-mail address to ttwotees@att.net.

The muffler is a 2 in and 2 out like the original. First sound clip is outside
the car and second one is inside with windows rolled up but not in gear.

Hi all the parts you listed are 2.5 the stock exhaust is 2.25 did you change the orginal pipe to 2.5 or do I need to order the 2.5 parts to fit one my 2.25 pipe.

Sorry for all the questions on exhaust stuff, just realy want to get it right.

Also I noticed you got 1 muffler and 2 res. Is this normal or did you mean to say you got 2 mufflers and 1 res.?

Achysklic, ttwotees maintained the stock 2 1/4" pipe, having the new pieces (2 1/2" inlet and outlets) fitted to connect to the stock pipe.

So I should also get the 2.5 parts to fit to my 2.25 pipe?

achysklic, ttwotees mentions one muffler and two resonators in a fashion that the (one) dual inlet/outlet muffler replaces the mid section stock resonator and the two resonators are mufflers...just a way some see it.

I used the 2.5" pieces, but that was an accident. I thought the original was 2.5" until we started welding. I'd use the 2.25" if I had to do it again and 2.25" is available. I don't think there's anything to be gained by going larger except if you think it's cool looking. I don't think so and it complicates the job for no gain.

Thanks for the replies I was just wondering if I got the 2.25 parts would they fit over the factory 2.25 for welding? I fiqured you went with the 2.5 so it would slip over the 2.25 and weld easy.

You have a n/a 4.2, so definitely go with ttwotees; staying with 2 1/4" components and pipe. The exhaust installer will expand the ends of the 2 1/4" inlet/outlets (of the new muffler components) to slip over the 2 1/4" exisiting pipe. If your placing hi-flow cats, x-pipe, and dual inlet/outlet muffler; you'll find the only stock pipe remaining is a small section after the muffler and the pipe that goes over the rear axle assembly to the rear boxes (mufflers).

Seth,

If I understand your setup your x-pipe is in the same place your resonater used to be onto glasspacks on into your mufflers. Right?

If I'm picturing it correctly his exhaust will look similiar to this. He will have the high flow cats going into an x-pipe with after the x-pipe looking similiar to the pic. What he listed as resonators are mufflers if you look up the part#. The center muffler is the part# 11386 and the left and right ones are what is listed as the resonators. Is this correct ttwotees.

Yes, the x-pipe is just after the transmission output shaft. The 12" Walker glass-packed tube mufflers (resonators) are placed just before the rear axle. This setup is similar to many factory setups.

Yes that is correct. When I was much younger, the central device was called a muffler and the devices placed at the end of the exhaust pipes were called resonators. Magnaflow calls all of them mufflers because you can use them anywhere
in the exhaust system. I don't believe they list anything called resonators, but then
it's all semantics anyway. (grin)
