2003 S-Type Power Window Problem

My drivers door power window has a problem. I was putting the window up when I heard soem crunching noises inside the door and then the window fell down inside the door.
I have pulled the door panel and have propped the window up so the rain doesn't get the interior wet. I have ordered a power window "repeir kit" from a Jaguar dealer on Ebay. Apparently the plastic channel guides get brittle and break. The kit comes with new plastic channel guides, window clamps, wire cable and tension springs.
My question is, has anybody posted pictures of how to install these items or does anyone have a repair manual they can scan and post the instructions and hopefully post some pictures??? I'm having trouble figuring out how all this stuff hooks up.
Thanks in advance!! Any help is appreciated.

Jaguar doesn't sell the "pieces" individually...
What I did on my car is use a regulator from a Lincoln LS. (Yes it works fine). About $80 online. Less if you have any sort of parts connection.
Now, basically what you are going to have to do, is pull the regulator from the door, and replace all the damaged parts and rebuild it. It's not that hard / bad to do. It will all make sense when it's out. I have a couple pics of my regulator on the floor if you need a reference guide.
Take care,
George

George,
Can you post the pics so I can see what it is supposed to look like? That would help tremendously.
Are you saying that I need to pull the channels out of the door to be able to rebuild this power window system? As you read above, I have new white plastic channel guides, new cables and new springs on the way. The Dealer selling them says they are very familiar with the issue and blame the plastic channel guides. They say they get brittle and break. Mine made a horrible crunching sound and then the window fell inside the door.
I didn't buy door channels or a new motor because the motor still works and the channels are metal and I doubt if they are worn any. I just need some instructions on how to disassemble this mess and reassemble it. A scan from a repair manual would be a life saver if anybody has one. I haven't found one locally yet............![Icon No](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_no.gif)

Gus,
Thanks for the write up. From what I understand the 99-2002 are the same and the 2003-2006 are the same. The regulators are different but similar. Your door panels and the inside of your door look almost identical to mine so I think I can do this.
I really appreciate the pictures. That will help tremendously. My issue was that I didn't buy the complete regulator "assembly" so I have to use my old regulator and motor and re-build it with all new cables and tension springs and regulator guides and such. It saved me about $150 this way I believe.
Thanks again!![Icon Beerchug](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_beerchug.gif)

EZ,
Take some pics as you work your way through it.
It must be the time of year for it, my drivers side rear packed in yesterday, same deal as yours, motor works, lot's of crunching and grinding but no movement.![Icon Shrug](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_shrug.gif)
It will have to survive with a wedge for a while until I can get home long enough to deal with it. I've pulled the fuse for now.

The one on the rear is just as easy and takes the same amount of time. The only difference is the way the window is connected to the regulator. It had a plastic pin that you force in and out and caution must be used or you will break the glass. I did all four windows and the drivers a second time. I would keep a roll of Duck tape in the car if I needed it to hold the window up.

You should have purchased the complete regulator. I got one on Amazon for about $60. So I don't see how you saved $150 by getting the pieces. You also will have a real fun time restringing the cables and little plastic pieces. If I were you I would return any and all "repair kits" and just change the entire regulator. Use the Lincoln LS part. Note; the front doors will interchange BUT the rear doors do not.

I replaced the broken bits from a kit I bought from an ebay seller based in Florida I think. The kit was ok ( came with new roller, wire, stronger plastic guides), you have to use the existing frame and motor. Which is fine if they are sound. No instructions. There is a bit of skill involved; definately a challenge for the novice. The bent metal that holds the roller in place needs to be carefully bent out/folded back, new roller dropped in with the wire rolled around it exactly how you found it! Taking photos prior to dismantling will help. There is no need to remove the channels/guides.
I did obtain a 2001 Stype regulator from the wreckers for a look, although similar the plug on the motor did not match mine (2002.5 STR). If you are stuck for photos let me know and I will send/post you some (I am not currently on my computer).

George,
That one looks exactly like the ones I have seen listed for the 2000-2002 models. There is a guy on Ebay that has these really cheap well but when I checked with him about fitment he said he didn't have the one for the 2003 + and he thanked me for cheecking.
I'm not doubting you because I know you've changed several but I was afraid to buy the cheap one as I figured there was a major design change in 2003 since the price went from $60.00 to over $200. Do you have any idea what the differences are and why the price difference?
I'm going to attempt to use the rebuild kit I bought but if I can't figure how to re-wire all the cables and tensioner springs and clips and stuff I'll just send it back and buy the $60.00 regulator.
Any modifications needed to get that one to work? Thanks for your expertise!!![Icon Headbang](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_headbang.gif)

I don't see how you managed to re-do all that without removing the regulators. I can't get my hands inside the door very well and it's upside down and backwards when looking at it!!

If it were me I would remove the old and order the new and see if it looks the same in the packaging. If it is incorrect order the correct one and return the other. Most people have a good return policy.

Wrong. I have a 2003 Lincoln LS and a 2005 STR. Here is the regulator from Amazon. It's $68 for the drivers side so be careful and get the correct side.
Amazon.com: Dorman 741-876 Lincoln LS Front Driver Side Power Window Regulator with Motor: Automotive
The later 2003-2006 LS rear window regulators are different from the Jaguar versions. So on those cars only the front window regulators swap out. On the early cars 2000-2002 front and rear are the same.

You have to understand that there is no official ford / jaguar cross reference or common parts database. Everything we've figured out has been due to trial and error. Slowly others are catching on.
Take care,
George
