Help this could be expensive lol
When I was checking my dtcs with my mongoose clone I checked the special option for ecu and TCM programming. The software v130 said an update was required and did I want to update. Stupidly I answered yes and the software proceeded to try and download a configuration file but after 30 mins of sitting there doingvnothing the laptop battery died ahhhhh
So I turned off the ignition and turned it on again only to be meeted by the nice gearbox fault performance restricted message

Now the software connects to every other module on the car but won't connect to the TCM. Took I it to to the local *********** who also couldn't connect to the TCM. No other fault codes found either. Is it wiring or actual TCM???
Is the TCM internal to the gearbox on the s type r???
Cheers
By the way I am in uk

A brick is . . . a BRICK!
Dear oh dear oh dear . . . Lessons here for the unwary, so please allow me to underline a few aspects as a WARNING to others. Sadly, I believe that these early Mongoose tools (ie early s/w versions) may have a suspect area of coding in this critical area.
Let's THINK . . . these tools come with warnings not to connect to internet while plugged into vehicle OBD. Maybe a workaround to avoid Topix subscription, but how and where will it find an update file? My guess is the program goes looking for Topix via internet and, not finding it, sits and waits . . . and waits. Yours is not the first case and my guess is it won't be the last. Other reports tell of a re-flash that "seems frozen, coz it's been trying for 5 hours" . . . to a classic case of computer battery runs flat. Whatever the reason, computer failure during any stage of a firmware re-flash WILL leave the target device with corrupt code.
Subsequent interrogation and error checking by the ECU at Ignition On will discover this and immediately lock out the target TCM. Worse still, being locked out means you cannot return to try again . . . as your dealer has now found.
Don't feel too bad about your final mistakes . . . viz
I sincerely wish you lotsa luck,
Ken

Don't feel too bad about your final mistakes . . . viz
- turning ignition Off, then On again, after a known flash failure;
- NEVER start any re-flash procedure until connected to mains power (NEVER rely on battery during ANY s/w edit);
- NEVER initiate a re-flash unless connected to internet to retrieve the update file for re-flash;
- NEVER use these tools connected to internet while also connected to vehicle's OBD port;
- NEVER blindly follow ANY recommendation (especially a re-flash) unless you absolutely know what you are doing, why, and how (or even if) you can recover from just such a disaster.
I sincerely wish you lotsa luck,
Ken

OK . . . and quick update. Late memory surge tells me you should search for thread (title unknown) to which I believe one of our respected mods [Cambo351] was the contributor of the "forced" manual re-flash . . . ie procedure for forcing the ECU to re-flash the TCM despite reporting that it couldn't find it. OK?
I'm sorry if this is vague . . . indeed I can't recall if it was a process you can do on the Mongoose clone, or required the Jaguar dealer platform with Topix . . . but hey, any hope of re-awakening your dead TCM is far quicker and cheaper than alternative.

Not sure where you are at?
But CTSC is by far the most knowledgeable about ZF transmissions in general. It might be worth your while to contact Klaus? He is a bit of a character and now a days does not seem to want to talk on the phone but will answer E-mails.
Have you looked at his site?

Well diagnosis is new mechatronic unit
In touch with a gearbox specialist in preston called Automatic Gearbox Repairs
Apparently jaguar stipulate to the dealers that ONLY a complete transmision is installed for warrenty purposes. No way for £3000 + fitting
So hopfully the bloke that I spoke to said it can easily be fixed, he just needed my gearbox number to contact ZF
Waiting for him to phone back.
Also the dealership PV dobsons of Kendal were brilliant, after taking the car apart and not being abale to fix it for 5hrs they charged me £120 so not bad
Also apparently my car is a pre-production model so maybe more woes ahead but i'll deal with them when i find problems lol
Will keep you all updated

The additional time it would take to travel, be without the car, strip it and try numerous tests to see if it is the tcm ecu would probably amount to a few hundred quid, then only to be told it needs a new one knocking the waiting time up again means it probably isnt worth it or the hassle.
Just one of lifes expensive mistakes that i wont make again lol
