Default HELP! PATS Sytem!

First, I am new to the site so hello everyone!

I just bought a 2002 S-type with the 3.0 v6. I just fixed a draw issue with the car. If it sat for a few days the battery would be weak and I couldn't start the car.. It was a bad battery so I since replaced it. Anyways, I narrowed the draw down to the ignition switch. Something must have failed inside and the radio was not turning off completely when I would leave the car. I replaced the ignition switch and battery and now the car will not start. I have tried both keys in the switch but the PATS light just blinks rapidly. I read about getting the DTC for the PATS system and I ended up with a code 61. I have tried disconnecting the battery for an evening hoping the ECU would reset and accept my keys. Another wierd thing is that the OBD port doesnt respond either? No code reader can communicate with the vehicle. What have I done?! I really want my car back on the road!

Does anyone know how to reset the PATS system or ECU? I tried putting the old switch back in but that didn't do anything.. I really don't want to take it to Jaguar. The closest one to me is about 70 miles and I would have to get a tow..

Sounds like an anti-theft issue so only a fully-authorized person can fix it. For a jag.... you already know the answer. Face it, none of us would want our cars easily stolen.

Its not code 61 it is code 16, communication fault with ECM. Check fuse #6 in the fuse box on the passenger side a-post near the passengers right foot(LHD) it should be 10 amp and not blown. If that ones good check #18 in the underhood fuse box it should be a 40 amp fuse and not blown.

Yep, you're right it's code 16.

BUT both fuses checked out.. any more ECM fuses to check?

Why would replacing the ignition switch do this?

Have you checked all the fuses and were any blown?

Trace the wires if you want to know why replacing the switch might do it

im very familiar with the PATS system........ if you mounted the ring at the front of the cylinder correctly, you MUST HAVE THE DEALER reprogram the codes for the new key. I imagine since you did the ignition switch you have new keys. And they do not match the door correct?

Well actually the ignition switch is two separate parts. The tumbler/ ignition lock cylinder and the ignition switch. The switch butts up to the tumbler but has no "keyed" portion to it so I didn't need new keys. I also did not touch the PATS ring or replace it.

if you had no need to change the keys, and you didnt mess with the antenna ring, then either the ECU is in a long term tamper mode, or something is disconnected somewhere. If you tried to start the vehicle too many times without the transponder being "seen" by the antenna, it will cause the no start condition.

What is the "long term tamper mode" and how do I get it out of that?

I have triple checked connections of everthing and still no start.

Is there a chance that the PATS ring/antenna failed for some reason?
