Welcome to the forum Hilary,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Welcome to the forum Hilary.

Here is the most likely fix to your problem:
Shifter Repair Kit - MotorcarsLtd.com

I am sorry to say but if you do an advanced search here (mouse over search button) you will see this is a very common problem effecting your model year.

I am sorry but posting from my phone makes difficult work of adding links.

You sure tale a lot of telling the same thing... that's VERY unusual, just about unique. Maybe you didn't realise but it looked like you were ignoring the answers, even though they told you what you asked.

It all makes sense now.

Ah I think ive made a very bad impression lol cant blame thevredbull though!!!!

My confusion came in because u were all kind enough to tell me the part but than auto mechanic's were saying no u need a whole new assembly

I guess being paniced n redbulled up wasnt helping, or the fact im a girl n overpanic instead of rationally thinking.

Now ive ordered the part n found a site with step by step instructions, V8 wouod u say this is an at home fix or a must 4 the machanic

Quite easy DIY, I think - but I've the later car and it doesn't have the problem.

There are posts about taking the centre (center) console apart and so on...

Do a search on YouTube as well as on this forum. Lots of folks post How-To's to YT. I've seen at least one that show's how to remove the console for my '03. Perhaps there's one posted for your car too.
