You all have seen my desperate search for STR aftermarket wheels without going custom forged aluminum ($$$). As some of you know, cast wheels for STRs are virtually non-existant, and in staggered set up forget it. Here is my plan to make Coventry wheels work on our cars with staggered set up (they only sell them to STRs as non-staggered!).

First, I have chosen the Coventry Whitley wheels because it is a contemporary, yet moderately conservative. I hope this works to show what it looks like....



So TSW makes these wheels under the "Coventry" name for Jaguars, but only offers 19x8.5 for our cars. I do not want to run same size on all four corners, but I noticed they also make it in a 9.5" width but for the XKR, which has an offset of 25mm. The STR has an offset of 42mm.

First, I do not know if these offsers are positive or negative. Companies usually write +42 offset or -42 offset so you know. However, I don't know and this is where I am hoping to find guidance.

I think we can put the 19x8.5 on our fronts no problem, and Coventry even sells them for the STR in that size so thats a non-issue. To stagger the back for wider wheels and deeper lip, I think we can get the ones they make for the XKR thats 9.5" wide, and with a 25mm offset.

I'm a little rusty with wheel specification, but I think if these offset numbers are negative offset, then we can put on 20mm spacers made by H&R and that should push the wheels out to within tolerance of our 42mm offset. If the offset is positive, then these wheels will stick out past fenders and spacers would make it even worse.

So I guess my question is, does anyone know if the offset for the STR and the XKR are positive? Or negative? Thanks.

yeah its positive.....so question really is will the arches handle the extra 17mm??!! not a huge amount and reckon a spot of arch rolling worse case will work. good find old boy. still think that a smooth 5 or 6 spoke will work better to match the smooth body lines. but as said its a mare trying to find aftermarket staggered wheels for the STR.

 

Wow what a high offset to be positive! That's more akin to front wheel drive cars! There goes Jaguar being weird again haha. At this point I have exhausted my search for aftermarket wheels. I'm not gonna shell out $5k for custom forged wheels so I have no choice but to stick with wheels that are one inch too small for the size of the body of the car. My Zeus wheels would look delicious on my STR if they were19" instead of 18", and if they had the "R" logo engraved into them like /////AMG and ///M wheels do. Oh well, I guess that's money I can spend elsewhere haha.

 

17mm is a lot. I tried to mount my friend's forged aluminum wheels that were on his Maserati (same bolt pattern and bolt size, but the offset and center bore didn't line up) and it stuck out about 9mm past fenders, and that would cause all sorts of problems smacking fenders. I was going to see if my friend's body shop could flare out the fenders but I never asked because I noticed by looking at my car the rear bumper meets the fender up high and it would be too complicated getting a smooth transition from a fender flared far enough out and the plastic rear bumper.

 

Here's another nail in the coffin, the STR's offset on all rims are 60mm...

$1265ish to buy it now, says they will ship to the United States but assume it'll be $313...Yet to have Authentic Jaguar staggered 19s for under $1600 is a good deal...

I believe they were optional on 06s-07s and standard on 08...They're made by BBS so odds are they're lightweight...

 

Direct fit on an '05?

 

I know for sure it's a direct fit on any 03'+ S-Type (STR or not) I believe it fit on the older ones too but am not entirely sure...

 

Spacers essentially lower the offset even more. So if you put a 20mm spacer on a wheel with a 25mm offset, that is more the equivalent of an offset of 5mm.

 

I've been researching wheels for the S-types for several months and have not been happy with the selection of available wheels that will fit the S-type's 4-1/4"/108 x 5 bolt pattern. Add in the offsets required to fit the wheel to the car and the selections are even fewer. The hub flanges on the S-type's are only 5.476"/140mm, so re-drilling the flanges to fit a more common 4.5" or 4.75" bolt pattern doesn't leave much material on the outside of the flange for the hub bolts.

On my S-type project car, I will be going with 19" x 10" fronts (285x35x19 tires) and 19" x 12' rears (335x30x19 tires) My plan is to adapt a set of Corvette rims to the S-type. I already have new hubs on the front suspension that will fit the 19 x 10s. For the rears, I will have to use 4-1/4 to 4-3/4 adapters.
All these changes will require substantial fender flares to accommodate the wide wheels. Corvette rims are cost effective and have large offsets. I think that several of the Corvette patterns look good on the S'type as well. So far it all looks good on paper/3-D model. One of the funny things is that the 15"/380mm front Rotors I plan on using on my car are more expensive than a set of Corvette rims.
