New to Jaguar - Tranny/Shifting Question

Hi all,
New Jaguar owner and new forum member here. Bought a 2005 S-Type 3.0 last weekend with ~46k miles on it. Very clean inside and out and thought it was a great find.
Just this morning I noticed some weird problems and hope that some of the more experienced members here can help me out.
- Shifting into OD seems to happen prematurely and the car makes a sound almost like a groan. When I open up the throttle a bit and force a downshift, everything seems fine.
- Under normal coasting or very slight acceleration around 55 mph the odometer wavers. Not so much that I feel the car lurching, but enough that I notice the the needle moving around and not staying steady.
- I've begun to notice that downshifting from 2nd to 1st is becoming a bit unsmooth.
- No CE light.
My first thought was that I should change the transmission oil, but after reading some posts on here that doesn't seem too good of an idea. Anyone have any input?

I presume you mean tachometer.
This condition is very common:
"S307-14: This Technical Bulletin has been issued to address a customer concern of a surge in
excess of 150rpm during engine warm up, at a temperature of 30°C to 50°C and at a vehicle speed
in the region of 40mph (64.3kph) to 60mph (96.5kph).
Action
Should a customer express a concern, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) should be reconfigured
using the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) with software release JTP 759/27 or later."
As police stated, changing the fluid wouldn't hurt either.

To get a better understanding take a look at the "Lurch".
Any internet search with Jaguar and Lurch will bring you right to it.
Yes get the transmission serviced BUT read up on it first. We have many threads with where to buy the stuff and what stuff to buy. You need knowledge as the S Type is not real common and even the dealers get it wrong sometimes!
