I was reading the manual for our 06 S-Type and found out that when you change the battery, you have to, among other things the radio will not work until the security code is re-entered. We don't have that code. Now what?

Phone your local jag dealer with the VIN number and proof of ownership and they should get you the code. As long as the radio is as fitted it should work, but don't forget to write the code down and keep it safe.

Having to enter the radio code after replacing the battery is overwhelmingly a non-US thing. The vast majority of owners here in the US do not have to do so. Having said that, it would still be a good idea to obtain your car's radio code and have it available when you do indeed replace your battery just in case....

The USA setting usually doesn't ask for the code.
Also, depending on model there's a bypass.

After a battery change in the US there are a couple of minor things that will be needed to be reset, EPB, windows, clock.

As mentioned no radio codes in the USA.

Thanks everybody. It's a relief to know it shouldn't need a code. I will however call the dealer to get it just in case.

Often times a new battery swap won't affect the radio security feature. If it does, simply push 1,2,3,4 on the radios phone feature.

The security system will only ask for the radio code if the battery is disconnected for a prolonged period of time. You won't have a problem by simply swapping in a new battery. If the radio dispay asks for a code, simply push 1,2,3,4.

Most good battery shops will back feed your system with a temporary power supply prior to removing and replacing your battery. This is to prevent any inconvenience a battery exchange could cause and this includes reprogramming. Ask them if they have that service.

Did you mean press and hold down: >>, AM/FM and PTY at the same time?
