Production number

I asked the dealer and they said that they are not #rd per trim level ie, R or 3.0 but are #rd in total order of manufacture. So if you have an R which is pretty rare you may still have a build # of 30,000 plus they did not tell me which #rs were the build #s. I think I did look it up on google once and it did explain it.
Hope this helps.

Here is a copy of a post I did a while back. These are sales numbers for the US by year. I have not been able to find production numbers anywhere, but the US sales numbers are eye opening enough....
Here it is:
So, I was wired on coffee last night and was poking around on the internet trying to find out some production numbers for Jaguar. Boy do they keep that stuff tight. What I did find was pretty cool. There is a Ford site that shows US sales figures all the way back to 1998. So here is some pretty interesting data... Just remember that this is calander year data and not model year.....
YEAR-----S-TYPE-----TOTAL JAGUAR
2007-----3,524-------15,683
2006-----5,875-------20,683
2005-----8,897-------30,424
2004-----10,975------45,875
2003-----14,876------54,655
2002-----15,965------61,204
2001-----19,548------44,532
2000-----24,507------43,728
1999-----15,541------35,039
Here is the link to take you to the site, and the list of reports available.

For those of you who drive S-Type R,s the production figures are as follows:-
1999 - 2001 3 were produced
2002 - 520 were produced
2003 - 205 were produced
2004 - 107 were produced
2005 - 163 were produced
2006 - 147 were produced
2007 - 129 were produced
hmmmmmmm i think those numbers might be right..... i had heard when i worked in Cali that the STR was being limited to under 1500 . Now i dont know if those are correct or not. but it could be right. HOWEVER, the STR didnt appear in the US until the 2003 model year IIRC.

I would love to see a photo of the first three produced, who owns them(dealer I'm sure) and what shape they are in today.

What is interesting to me is how the sales figures dropped every year after 2000. No wonder they discontinued our lovely S types. the question is why did the sales drop? The car was getting better not worse. And I haven't met anyone who thinks the S is ugly not their cuppa tea maybe but not ugly

Yes, Ford and Jaguar addressed the issues, but the competition also upped their game.... When you read "good" reviews of the cars later on, they say that they are good, just out gunned by more refreshed models..
And now for the real funny thing, Steadicam. They didn't discontinue the S Type... They still build it... All they did was redo the suspension, interior, and body panels... then decided to call it the XF instead... Yes, the XF uses the same platform as the S Type. To Jaguar's credit, they did do a lot of engineering on the new suspension components.

2003 STR production numbers and order
I would be really interested to production number and order. I have a 2003 STR with 52,000; which was originally owned by the Newport Beach, CA Jaguar dealership owner. (When I bought the car the CDs in the back were a collection of CDs titled "Anita's Elton John Mix", not a a bad sign.
