quite confused- engine Stype 2002, 2002.5??
Hi there, its the first time that I join such a community and hope you may help me as Im a big Jaguar fan and im totally felt in love with our cat we bought last year. After driving for some nice weeks, feelling in love mor and more, we had a successfull "meeting" with a deer Now we tryd to find a new motor for our Jaguar S Type 3.0 V6 for over 6 months and we are getting crazy about these different types of motors which came in year 2002. Now after sitting at the web hours and hours i found following informations: there is a S Type 2002 before facelift and a S Type 2002 after Facelift. Now- does the S Type BEFORE facelift having another engine or look of the engine and does the S Type AFTER Facelift is named 2002.5 and has this type of engine which we may see here on the photos?? Or is the 2002.5 another Type- maybe the SPORT TYPE? Is probably the 2002.5 automatically the Sport? Cause our engine is the one we see here on the photos - but we just find these other 2002 type of engines with another look.. HOPE you may help and answer these questions quickly and maybe you also have an idea where to get.... would loooove to drive around very soon again- just love this Car! THANKS!

Yes, the engine in the photo is model year 2002.5
If your engine looks the same, all you need to do is buy another identical looking engine.
This engine was introduced at VIN M45255.
My UK 2003 3.0 car which is VIN M850XXX has the same engine.
Do not buy the early engine, as it used lots of different parts, so it will not be suitable for your car.

jaguarcat, to the best of my knowledge, the 3.0L V6 is the same engine used in both the S-Type and X-Type with 1 slight variance in that the X-Type uses a different intake. But, the rest of the motor is the same. As for a variance between the pre and post facelift engine, again, it is probably just a slightly different intake on the motor (with the rest being physically the same) where the OEM was trying to get a few more horses out of the motor with a less restrictive intake.
The big difference between the X-Type and the S-Type is that the X-Type has its motor mounted sideways due to the AWD that it has vice the more "standard" RWD setup that the S-Type has. If you can find a motor from an S-Type or X-Type, you should be able to transfer your current intake over to the motor and be just fine.
You can probably even be good with finding a Lincoln LS with the 3.0L motor and use that as they shared a lot of stuff, but the block will be identical (both are based off of the Ford Duratec engine).

Welcome to the forum jaguarcat,
I've merged this with your identical post from General Tech Help and removed another identical one from Jaguar Engines forum. Please do NOT make identical posts across different forums.
It looks like Corv and Thermo have got the answer for you although each had replied to a different one of your posts!
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. Up to model year 2002 is the pre-facelift (vin lower than M45255)
Model year 2002.5 onwards is the facelift model (vin from M45255)
As mentioned there were a number of differences between those engines, if you find a donor vehicle with a VIN above M45255 then you will be fine.
Also, if you find a wrecked X350 XJ6 (aluminium bodied XJ) with the 3.0L V6, that engine will also fit your S-Type.
The X-Type 3.0L would also be an option, but you will need to swap a lot of components over, not just the intake, but also the sump, one of the camshafts, water pump, timing cover, it's lots of work....

Well!!! Big THANKS to all your helpfull answers! So i know now its the facelift , as it also have the electronic handbrake and engine looks the way on my photo-
1.- is it automatically the sport version then?
2.- if we found another motor block before facelift very cheap and now just taking of the aluminium part (intake) looking another way and try to put on the aluminium part after facelift on the engine block- - will this work??? Thankies!!!

I recommend downloading and installing the JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalogue) to your computer, you will then be able to see for yourself, all of the component changes on your car over the years.

Can you tell us what damage there is to your engine and why you need a replacement?

finding new engine is hard
i know its difficult but more difficult it is to find such another engine cause all the ones on the european market are the old ones before 2002facelift or- even stranger it is 2003 and still has the old intake inside
would hope it could be possible to match 2002 and 2002.5- which parts did they change??
the old motor had a strange clatter when it was working after the accident, opened it- AND much more strange- we found lots of metallchips in the oil tray. We do this with a mechanican and he was wandering, sayd someone before may be guilty- nothing was broken inside the block but couldnt explain where chips came from. so new engine- better we think :/

jaguarcat, the motor will physically bolt up to the tranny. The problem is the X-Type has a water pump that would be on the backside of your motor when you put it in the S-Type. Not a problem as long as it doesn't fail on you. I forgot about that. Moving the water pump would then result in the cam change and whatnot. Granted, you also have the Lincoln LS 3.0L engine which will be in the configuration that you need. Swap the intake over and you are golden.

Have a look at this thread Jaguarcat https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ype-jag-34228/
It's doing the swap the opposite way, but it still tells you all the parts that need to be changed over if you are putting an X-Type engine in an S-Type and vice-versa.

Cambo- no no no you are going the wrong way!!
I dont want to put a X Type into a S Type- problem is we have the S Type 2002.5- the Facelift and we are asking if the Motorblock BEFORE Facelift is usable with the alumimium intake from the broken motor AFTER facelift....
mean mix the motor components BEFORE and AFTER facelift- but both S Type...
cause we bought a new motor from 2000 and noticed that the aluminium intake is another one to the 2002.5.. :/

Ah yeah, you didn't say you'd already bought an engine, I thought you were looking for one....
Honestly I don't know if you can use a <2002.5 bottom end in a >2002.5 S-Type by just swapping the intake manifold & other ancillary bits. Don't know if anyone ever did that before.
But since you have both engines available, someone has to go first, let us know how you get on...
