$20 + tax for a lugnut?!?!?!

Someone needed my lugnut more than I do apparently.
I have not had any tire work done on the car, but a lug nut went missing...
When I called the dealer they wanted $20 each and suggested replacing the whole wheel or $100 worth.
I have a 2002 3.0L S-type with orignal 16" wheels on it (235/50-16). The lug nuts have a cheap apparently non-removable chrome cap over them and that cap seems to get bent loose when I use the stock tire iron. The dealer said this is a "reoccuring problem".
What good solid replacement lugs can I put on this car with these wheels. None of the local parts places can cross-reference them???
Thanks in advance for your help. Greg

So do we think these will work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20-JA...Q5fAccessories
I don't mind changing the whole set if we think they will seat correctly. It would be a good thing to be able to change a tire on the roadside if necessary.
Thanks. Greg

I think that McGard makes the best aftermarket lug nuts. They are always solid metal, no lousy two-piece construction (which should be illegal) and they are guaranteed not to rust. I've put at least three sets of them on different vehicles over the years, usually when I finally got sick of the two-piece OEM lug nuts falling apart on me during tire rotation even while being gentle with hand tools, not impact wrenches. Haven't had to buy a set in about 7 years, but I think I paid around $45 for the last set I purchased. Like everything else, you can bet that prices have increased since then.
I can always find them at wheels & tires specialty shops here in the Raleigh area, and they usually stock exactly what I need without having to special-order. All of my McGard sets have come with lifetime warranties and I've never had to replace a single McGard lug nut for any reason....

Ran into that myself when the dumb tire shop overtorqued them and when I went to take them off, the stainless steel nut just broke off!
I went to a ford/lincoln dealership and got them for a lincoln LS. They cut me a deal after haggling and got them for about $6 a piece, if I bought all 20 new ones. So I spent $120 for all 20 instead of $100 for 5!

Are these the stock Jaguar lug nuts? I'm not certain I want any more of these flimsy things. I might have a flat sometime and need to be able to get them off.
Thanks for letting me know.

Try the McGard website - I believe it is www.mcgard.com .
I can't overemphasize how pleased I've been with their aftermarket lug nuts over the past 10 years or so. Pretty simple, really - I just want solid, one-piece lug nuts that don't rust and never cause crossthreading on the wheel studs, and I don't want to pay a fortune for them. McGard has always come through for me. Check them out....

Five packs of four @$9.99 = $49.95 or $199.80 total - the pricing is not clear. Top quality - certainly far superior to OEM.
