hey all, I've just purchased a brand new $8.55 ebay remote for a Ford Transit, thinking it might work with my dads 2001 S-Type. Please note it's a 433Mhz remote so it will only work in the UK and Australia.
I hooked up the trusty mongoose and programmed it in. so far so good. but I noticed that while the unlock and boot buttons worked, I couldn't get it to lock the car.
So I took a closer look at the circuit board and noticed one of the solder traces not going anywhere from the lock button. Thinking I've got nothing to lose I soldered a small bit of wire to bridge the gap. voila! the lock button now works!
here's a pic of where to solder the wire :
For the price of a new shell and rubber pad I've now got another remote. it doesn't have the fancy jaguar logo on it but it works! But if your remote is faulty it will fit your original remote shell.
I also bought one of these flip keys which I'm hoping to fit the electronics into:
After finally getting the key blade cut I set out in search of Ford keys at the wreckers to find one compatible with the S-Type. I found one in a small glass tube worked. Unfortunately where it sat in the key shell was too far away for the receiver to pick up, so I had to modify the shell a little bit so it could be located a bit closer.
Here is a picture of the key I got the transponder chip from.
And here is where I got it to sit in the key shell. It's located in the lower left.
I wonder what I can use to cover that central screw?
A jaguar key badge!
And the final product!
The key shell and blade was $7.89 and the remote was $8.55 for a grand total of $16.44 AUS. The most expensive part was getting the blade cut for $25.
Hey all, just a bit of an update I upgraded dad's S-Type keys to these late model ones available on eBay for less than $20 delivered!
They don't come with the transponder chip but DO come with the remote circuit board and battery! I popped the old transponder in and programmed it up to his X200!
They are available on eBay, I'm not associated with the seller just a happy customer. Quality wise the plastic is a bit shiner than a genuine key and the rubber pad feels thinner. Also unfortunately they don't come with the Jaguar logo.
Hey all, just thought I'd update this thread with a bit more info. The frequency on the above remote can be changed from 433MHz to 315MHz so they can apparently be used in all regions!
Hold down both the lock and unlock buttons
press the trunk button 3 times
That's it! It will cycle between 433MHz and 315MHz

I hope this works, the keyman just sent me away due to the wrong frequency remote.
Dopey is correct, they do cycle, easily and consistency; taught the locksmith something. Thank you sir.
So the guy sets the cycle as Dopey instructed, then cut and programmed the keys (locksmith, not dealer), for $165. Driving home I noticed the climate screen is blank. AC and Heat work, all controls, but blank screen. Fuse?

Thanks very much for the update, it helps everyone out when members take the time to update us on how things went. Especially when there's a happy ending!

Likely totally unrelated to your key works. Reach out and tap the screen with your finger. If that doesn't restore it...give it a "long-press." See? Your Jag is updating itself to the more modern "touch screen!"
Maybe I should add this feature to the thread on "surprising features we didn't realize our S-types have" or whatever it is...
The screen came on next time I drove it, but then after a few miles, starting flashing. So strange. I did some JagForum research and found others claiming my battery is less than acceptable. I'll check and charge it this weekend and see where we stand.
