I'm getting the sense that Mafioso is out of the biz. That's encouraging news, however, that the torch will be picked up and carried on. I may have a surplus stock air box I could donate or loan for the cause if it would help.

Very noble of you and if needed, much appreciated. Let's see what quartzstr and qwiketz say.

I'll let you guys know toward the weekend. I talked to the company that does the injection molding for AEM, K&N, Banks, and basically all the big names. They're a customer of mine.

I'm going to shoot them the measurements this week and see what the setup fees are for it. I'm hoping for some hookups being that I've worked with them for about 3 years now. It's a really simple piece so we'll see if it's feasible. The setup fees are usually pretty high so we'll see what she can do.

Basically, how it works is they charge and make money off the setup fee and the mold is created. Once the mold is created then I can periodically run batches of the intake pieces as needed when members need them.

If it's doable, that'll be great. If not, I'll probably make mine out of metal similar to mafioso's. I talked to my fab shop today and they said it'll be an easy project for them. They do a ton of offroad truck tube chassis and roll cages, so I know their work and welds are nice.

Once I get more info in, I'll chime in. It looks like thee's about 15 people interested (including myself) so we'll see if we can make this happen.

Excellent qwiketz! The modded air intake tube IMO is a must do for better performance wether modding or desiring greater efficiency.

At this point I'd only be interested in plastic and NOT metal...

Cost is the big question for the abs ones. These things commonly cost about 10k for the mold but since ours is so simple with little engineering time, I'm hoping the cost will be a fraction of that. We'll see though...

Default I bet intakehoses.com....

I bet intakehoses.com can/will take one of the Mafioso air intake tubes and duplicate it for a bunch less than what Mafioso sold it to us. I'm going to give them a call now. Oh by the way, their silicon connector bellows are a tighter fit than the rubber Mafioso connectors, which will fail/rip in a few months time.

The answer is sort of.... Intake hoses stocks a part similar on their website, but for our application, it's roughly double the price on the web because it would be a custom order with a longer leg on one side. I already emailed them since they've been my go to place for the past 15 years. Cutting the part to length, welding on the bung and finishing it is not their cup of tea though.

For the silicone connections, reinforced 4 ply silicone is what I always use. Screw clamps are probably fine, but the t bolt are better for the oval opening. Unrefinforced silicone or rubber isn't the best way since there is a little flex when the engine torques over. The part is supported on both ends and it's not a boosted part, but if there is a leak or it comes off, the check engine light will go on or the car will completely shut down. I have had tubes blow off in boosted applications using standard screw clamps even at fairly low boost pressure.

On a different note, I sent over the specs, measurements and description over to my customer to see what the setup cost would be for the abs plastic type setup. I'd imagine I'd get a figure by the end of the week.

anyone have a part number for the part of the valve cover? What is the ford replacement part #? I did a search on the autozone website but couldn't come up with anything. I'd like to replace mine due to age and to minimize the chance of it blowing out. I read the discussion but it's been a few days. i think it was the pcv?

I spoke with Charlie of airintakehose.com He said they'll put one together if they have 25 orders. I mentioned we likely have less than 25. He'll still help us if less than 25. I also mentioned that XKR and XJR owners would be interested too. Give him a call at: (509) 489-3684.

If I remember right, somewhere in this thread I think it was said the Ford PVC from a 5.4 V8 would fit...

I didn't chime in for a while since I didn't want to step on any toes if mafi was going to be doing these. I pmed some information to bfsgross and qwikets about how I did mine. If a ABS option ever came out I might be interested but since I have NOS and alky plumbed into mine it might not be worth it. The things are about as simple as it comes to make, by a 90' tube, cut to fit and thread/weld in a barb adapter. Think I did mine for 65$ I would like to have the nice coatings but may just heat wrap it at some point.

Just being a realist here, nearly half the list is almost a year old...

Perhaps it would be wise to start a new thread and PM the 21 potentially interested folks...

Put me down if the cost is right.

Out of interest - anyone know why the stock plastic intake has all the weird extra chambers on it?
