I have some noise from rear differential of my 04 Jaguar S-Type.
After check by local repair shop, they told me that I can try following methods
1. Buy a low mileage differential.
2. Buy a rebuild differential. 3. Buy bearing, spacer, sealing and rebuild current diff. ß I prefer
I found another article which mention about the diff, but I am not sure if this is same diff with mine. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-parts-173763/
After discuss with my machinist, he highlighted following parts for me if I really prefer to rebuild current differential.
On a practical level, I don't think the forum has a lot of info about rebuilding a differential. If you don't get many responses, please don't interpret that as the forum being unwilling to help. Differentials are generally quite robust and last a long time as long as they don't run low on oil.
I've rebuilt a few differentials, but on other brand vehicles. In all cases, it was very easy to locally procure new bearings, races, and seals. I just brought the existing parts to my local bearing supply house and they matched them up with new. Designers typically spec off-the-shelf parts like that. No experience with a Jaguar differential, but I bet you will find the same thing. The only catch is very few people on the forum have needed to rebuild their car's differential, so the experience just isn't there. In other words, there may not be a comprehensive list of parts you will need, including what can be sourced via Timken, etc., and what must come via Jaguar. In some ways, you will be a pioneer of the process, so please keep notes to share. You may not be able to get the parts ahead of time, and will need to plan accordingly for longer down time.
Now that I've said that, watch somebody come in after me with very detailed instructions and part numbers...
I've taken apart a Gen 1 differential and it looks like a straight forward rebuild. But I recommend you purchase a new pinion and ring gear. The old gears become worn together and when you rebuild it the risk is high after you shim the ring/pinion to new clearances that they will be mated in a slightly different position than before and you will get noise between that gears that will drive you crazy.

The images you posted are of a Gen 2 differential. All the Gen-2 differentials are the same housings other than gear ratio. Too much time has passed for me to remember the P/Ns associated to the gear ratios.
From my perspective, the gen 2 differentials are a pain in the *** to rebuild. Because of driveshaft noise and I believe harmonic complaints, they went to the Gen 2 design that used unequal length drive axle shafts,
The differential assembly they went to only has one bearing clamp on the left side and the carrier's second bearing is pressed into the housing.
Easier to purchase another used one, or pay someone to rebuild it, rather than do it yourself. (Unless you've rebuilt other differentials before).
I think the easier way is purchase an used differentials from Ebay or somewhere, and find someone to replace it.
Many S Type in my country has same problem since Jaguar Taiwan Agent don't help client replace the differential oil.
