Silencing chambers. That's why it's so much louder with an intake tube.

Out of interest - anyone know why the stock plastic intake has all the weird extra chambers on it?
This is what my '05 Supercharged R sounds like without the stock plastic intake and sound chambers

Sounds great; metal will always sound louder than plastic and it appears if this new intake happens it'll be plastic...

You guys should hear my car. Mine screams due to the snakebite and removed sound insulation cover. I'll try to get some video of the stock tube and the aftermarket one on the dyno later this week. Hopefully it gets me the 10-15 hp at the wheels that I've heard about.

Look foward to hearing it...I took my insulation off too and it was a little louder...

I still want to hear a STR that has sealed up the SC silencer ports...

Yep. Then I wussed out, not worried about cutting the hood just that it would not look right.

Mine should be real loud. Intake tube, no insulation, ported sc/ and elbow at 19#.

I might just do that. I cut a hood one on my Merkur to put Cosworth vents into it.

I have mine from my STR that I sold. I'd like to sell it but figure it will be easier to sell locally since I don't use paypal or anything like that. I see you are in the great city of Jacksonville, NC. I'm in Raleigh now since I am out of the military but I know the Jacksonville area and you are only about 2 hours from me. If you are interested in the one and only red Mafioso intake shoot me a pm and we can figure out something.

Mafioso has unfortunately experienced some serious health issues. And if I remember correctly, he no longer has his STR. Perhaps other members can offer a more current update....

If you are looking for a good intake that's not too expensive, do a search for caldoofy. He has some good intakes and there are quite a few of us running them with the Mina performance intake bolstering another 20 rwhp give or take...

Cheers!
