00 S-type

So I am a newbie at this (Jaguar) crap. I am looking at a 2000 S-type 4.0. I have been researching for a bit and have come to the conclusion that maintaining this car will no more expensive than my cureent Saab and Volvo. I would sell my 9.5 for this car more than likely. The S has 38000 miles, drives very well, quiet, but has a host of issues. The gas cap door does not shut due to a broken plastic stop, easy I am sure to fix. One of the ashtray doors does the same, the light switch is a bit loose, and it needs an alignment(steering wheel is quite a bit off). I believe the previous owner did not take care of it that well. I am a bit nervous of buying this car, but am a veteran with cars. My bro had an 03 XJR that we both loved. This is a different car all together though. What should I do? I make good money so I can afford to maintain, but I do not want to pay for a new tranny or anything like that. Any advice on this year? Thanks.

the ashtray fix is pretty easy. It happened to me so I ordered the latch from the dealership for $20 and then just pryed out the old one and popped in the new one.
funny enough, I have a 00 s-type and surprisingly I have had very little problems with it. Over 5 years, I just had to replace 2 power window assemblies and just recently, a radiator overflow tank. Maybe I just know how to pick out the good ones, cause I used to have a 97 land rover discovery which also had no issues. lol

S-Type 2000 can be picked up for as low as $5,000, if you know how to negotiate.
Use the money you save to fix any sundry items which need fixing.
However, do not take the car to the dealership.
The dealership is den of professional thieves.
S-Type 2003 is still up around $13,000.
Heck, you could even throw in a new GPS Bluetooth car radio, with that extra cash.

Welp, ended up buying the 00. Hasn't needed much yet. Taken well care of. 36000 miles as well. I am replacing the A-pillar interior trims, also the ash tray clip. Everything in good shape. Will definitley be tuning. Exhaust, wheels, lowering springs, and other goodies. Hopefully using this forum will help my understanding of this car.

Congrats and good luck . . I bought a 2000 S Type a few weeks ago . . 74000 miles, $7500, interior looks like new, front end needs paint work because clear coat peeling in a couple of spots, replacing one (so far) window regulator, used dealer provided CarFax to obtain all maintenance records from servicing garages named in CarFax (fortunately previous owner utilized only 2 places for service/repair work and they willingly sent me copies of their records) so I know what has been repaired/replaced on vehicle, so I can appreciate your excitement

So your saying they are for girls eh? If thats the case, then I guess you need 44's for the street because you have something to prove. Cool, real cool. What a waste of a good tire. They were designed for dirt and rocks man, not pavement. I feel sorry for you. Tell your sister I am proud of her. I am done. Late.

Dude, what is wrong with you? I am not bent out of shape. I seriously don't care at all about your Bronco. You are the one who brought it up. I DO NOT CARE. Nice math too on the HP levels. Smart guy. Have a great day my friend. If you ever need any help keeping your rigs drivetrain intact, let me know. I design suspension systems in my down time. I put axles bigger than yours in a rig much smaller. Thanks.
