I disagree about anyone being "rough" on Searanch. "Spending" to trick out (or even to maintain) cars IS NOT "investing". No one can successfully win that argument, especially with an economist like me. I don't even consider our house as an investment - it actually falls more into the expense category....

Just because it is thought of as a waste to a pure economist does not make it so....Remember, this is a site for enthusiasts of the brand...The ones looking for free mechanical advise or to "bitch" about their car never last long..The enthusiasts stick around.
As long as they get the color right...I will still love my car. Seeping lines and all. I will invest in synthetic oil, silly retro center caps, nice wood shift knob, etc... Just for the "smile" return I get...

Jon, I think you're missing my subtle point, to 'invest' has more than one definition, one of which is what you describe, in the absolute, economical sense... and a couple others -
1. to put (money) to use, by purchase or expenditure, in something offering potential profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value. <- Jon's preference
2. to use (money), as in accumulating something: to invest large sums in books.
3. to use, give, or devote (time, talent, etc.), as for a purpose or to achieve something
That's all I was saying, and #3 probably how the term was meant to be taken in the original post (verbatum from the ad)

Not all life investments should have monetary value or return.
All finacial investments are gambling, nothing more or nothing less.
Most things that make life fun and enjoyable are a waist of money if you look at them from a practical side.
My economic background still leaves me room for fun and forgetting about how much it just cost me, and I can still sleep at night.

Jeff - I never used the word "waste". There's a big difference between "spend" and "waste"....
h20boy - I did not miss your subtle point, I understand your position(s) completely....
MyBlackCat - I also have fun with my passions, but I don't confuse the financial interpretation of "investing" with the more appropriate moniker of "gaining fulfillment". And if you truly believe that all financial investments are gambling, you're playing on the wrong field....

I am glad that you don't get confused.
Your **** don't stink either, that's what we call a perfect *******.

Since searanch is no longer promoting this car, or contributing in this thread, let's close it down.
One more mental note made - controversial topics now include, politics, religion, synthetic vs dino oil, K&N filters, and now investing.

Man this thread got way off topic really soon and not in a good way
Suffice to say, that ANYONE who disrupts the harmony of the forum repeatedly in any way, shape or fashion, whatever it may be will not be tolerated. Some of the more senior members may remember we had something similar in the past with a few members who thought they were unvulnerable? Warnings were given and then unfortunately a ban followed.
Please lets ALL think before we post a thread or a reply to one, take a moment and re read it and how it sounds to you....Would you be offended? If the answer is yes, or even maybe, its a good time to rethink your wording.
