Default 04 XJ8 ZF transmission in an Stype R

What are the differences between the S type R 4.2 and the Xj8 4.2 transmission? I have the latter and may have to replace the former.

Thanks in advance!

If memory serves, the drums and clutches are different for the supercharged car. Use the search function.

Here is one such thread:

It looks like there are a couple clutches different and perhaps the TC- does anyone have a definitive answer? I *could* tear them both apart to confirm, but was hoping I didn't have to....

If I can swap the TC and then plug it in I would be a happy man. I could have sworn the main boxes were the same for all applications and the valve body or TC and tail were changed for each application?

Torque Converter and Clutches are different on the ZF6 for SC applications. (STR, XJR)

TCM has to be flashed unless you swap yours into the replacement trans.

You can put a SC ZF6 unit into an N/A car but not the other way around.

If you have a SC engine you need to source a ZF6 with a SC designation on the label.

Circling back on this- I sourced a valve body from a good used STR and changed the fluid/filter. Totally fixed all my problems, runs like a champ again. I also believe it was underfilled by about a quart and the filter/fluid was original (very thin)
