Default '05 S Type 4.2 Steering...

'05 S-Type 4.2L V8 Sport, Gas/Petrol
212K miles
Purchased preowned 3 years ago.
Have replaced cooling system, ignition coils/plugs, done general maintenance
Has performed well, 23-27 MPG

Sudden loss of power steering. Checked all fluids a week before. All seemed OK.
Can steer accurately without power (much harder in small spaces).

After power loss, checked reservoir, it was empty. Refiled with spec fluid, just empties straight down as soon as it's filled. Appears to be coming from pump.

No warning/noises till after fail; slight whirring (sounds like drip onto S-belt) directly below pump. Eyeballing indicates leak is direct from pump, not hoses/clamps. Don't have a lift.

Seeking any insight about possible root causes. Checked into pump replacement (last 6 of VIN N17205). Rebuilds are less than 1/2 cost of dealer part @ $+/- $350 USD, but hard to find.

She runs great. I want to fix her but am on a tight budget and can't do dealer prices for it. Research indicates pump replacement may require special tools to lift engine for access?

Is there a workaround?

Is the leak from the pump or from one of the hoses?

You may need to have a Jaguar specialist look at the vehicle from underneath to correctly diagnose where the leak is coming from.

Thank you for responding NB.
Removed the air intake/filter to get a better look when adding more fluid.
It doesn't look like hose or clamp issue. It just pours right out of the seal by the center shaft of the pump : (

If it's the pump, there are no work-arounds other than replacing the power steering pump per the instructions in the Workshop Manual.
