Default 05 S-Type R 4.2 V8 SC Oil Change / Tools

Did a search and did not come up with any results for these questions:

1) What size is the oil drain plug bolt?
2) What is the torque for the oil drain plug?
3) Any specfic tools to remove undershields / undertray?

Oil filter and oil is ready to go.

Thanks.

I have the 3.0 engine so I can't speak to the 4.2.

However, I'm assuming that our undertrays and their mounting hardware are the same. If that's true, here's how I remove mine:

1. Support the front end of the car on jack stands or ramps or preferably both.

2. Underneath the front bumper, remove the three 10 mm bolts.

3. Just behind those bolts, remove the two Posi-drive screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

4. In the middle of the undertray, remove the two 10 mm nuts mounted on fixed studs.

5. And finally, at the back of the undertray behind the front wheel wells, remove the two 10 mm bolts mounted on swiveling brackets. This can be a bit tricky because those swivel points will want to move around on you (especially when you are re-installing the undertray).

6. The undertray should now drop away from the car. You may have to slide it backwards just a bit to get it to go.

When re-installing the undertray, I start with the three front bumper 10 mm bolts, then the two 10 mm nuts mounted on fixed studs in the middle, then the two Posi-drive screws, and I save the two 10 mm bolts mounted on swivels for LAST. This is because if there is any adjusting necessary to get the undertray to position properly, you can swivel those brackets around as needed.

Good luck and I hope it goes smoothly for you. Once you've done it you'll be a pro and you'll get quicker working with the undertray each successive time. I've had mine off twice - once just to look around and get familiar with the underside of the car, and then again to actually change the oil and filter a month or so later....

Drain bolt torque: 18 ft-lb, 16 mm
On the jag filter it says 3/4 turn or 18 ft-lb

Default First Oil Change

I just did my first oil change on my 06 4.2 this weekend. Got a Motorcraft filter, Castrol oil, and a set of Rhino Ramps at Advance Auto. The ramps really made the job pretty easy. When I started to drop the belly pan, I discovered that two of the front fasterners were gone - necessitating a trip to Lowes for some body bolts and the threaded clips that were missing. Only problem I had was getting the oil filter on tight enough. I ended up using my strap wrench, which slightly dented the filter, but, got it on the required 3/4 turn. Guess I'll use a K&N filter next time with the nut on the end, or, buy a cap wrench that fits the Motorcraft filters. The belly pan was no problem to re-install, but, now I have a couple of SAE bolts holding the front of it along with the one 10mm that was still there. Took me longer than usual, because I stayed under the car for a while admiring the machinery.

Just changed the oil on my 3.0 I got chastened for this on another thread but the bolts are not 10mm they are 6mm with a 10mm hex.
Sorry for being pedantic but that is how it works in metric.
