Default ? 06 str

New mwmber here, looking for some input what to be aware of for s-type R. Looking for a daily driver (not long comute) and extra weekend car that is fun to drive and not going to kill me on maint./service. Dont bash but I am a BMW guy but open to all.
I have always liked the looks, style and performance of the STR and price point seems like much car for the dollar.
thanks in advance for any info.
Jeff

Welcome Jeff!
The real answer here is you need to search. This is the most common question posted. It has been beaten up pretty severely and a large number of posts are on this site for you to decide. You might look at some of the other S Type forums but I found this one to be the most useful!

Welcome Jeff.

Our 06 has been great so far. If you can get an ext warranty I would go for it. We paid $2500.00 for it and have had over $4100.00 in repairs, all at my Jag dealer(which I like). The biggest repair is the bushings front and rear which include wishbones and alignment. Dealers said this is common with all stypes.06 went to VVT and got ten more HP from 390-400
Brakes wear quickly but are easy DIY fix. 06 has no seperate caliper for parking brake because no Brembo, this is a money saver due to not needing the expensive park brake pads. Rears wear faster than fronts, the stability control uses rears as needed so they wear quicker.
Good luck. Jags are great cars, you won't be disapointed.

Jeff, STR has what many believe to be the sexiest lines amongst sport sedans, very comfortable ride, and more than enough grunt to satisfy your visceral needs to evicerate...unsuspecting prey.

Thanks for tips and input, test drove the car I have been eyeballing. Very impressive Jumped on the frwy. and in a flash over 100mph pulling very smooth along with a great whine. over the years I have owned a 308,
s-4, m-5, several m-3's and many more and I must say overall luxury along with performance i dont think anything I have driven compares. Just need to make a few things happen and it should be in my garage.

You made a wise choice Jeff. Now it's time to enhance her ability to both inhale and exhale...watch these threads closely for an easy additional 75+ hp and torque.

Jeff, Remove the stock paper air filter and unscrew the solenoid actuated air intake baffle found on the bottom half of air box. Put it somewhere if ya want to keep it. Now drop in a K&N flat panel air filter into the stock air box. Mafioso has a modded intake in the works that proved on a dyno to wring out 13 hp @ 7 lb/ft torque on a stock motor. We're waiting for it to reach production. The STR's exhaust is purposely clogged-up by Jaguar to be quiet. So you're gunna weld in a pair of Magnaflow hi-flo cats, 2 1/2" pipe, followed by a Magnaflow x-pipe (2 1/2"), 2 1/2" pipe to a pair of 12" Dynomax glass packed tube pre-mufflers (behave as resonators), 2 1/2" pipe over the axle to a pair of Dynomax Super Turbos. This full exhaust mod should yield approx. 30 hp and torque not failing to mention an authoritive but not overbearing exhaust note. Next call EuroToys and order a low temperature thermostat and a 2.5/3.0 supercharger pulley. The pulley alone yields approx. 30 hp and torque. Viola! Approx 75 hp and torque. If you think she's kind of quick and grunty now....
