Default 07 str

Hey guys n gals, new here on the forum as well to Jaguar! Purchasing an 07 STR this week and wondered if there is anything I should look for or be aware of? Any common problems? Noises, complaints? The car has 70k on it. What are the maintenance intervals or big services I should pay attention to? Thanks in advance for any info!

Be sure to read the FAQ sticky threads at the top of this section of the forum. Plenty of information there about the care and feeding you'll need to do. The big "watch out for" issue on the STR is the expensive and difficult-to-access "coolant hose under the supercharger leak". Plenty of threads about this, so just spend a couple of hours here reading. Time well spent....

If you hear the SC whine for long, look out for the siren. Police siren.

+1 on what Jon put.

Play around with the electronic E-Brake, sit quietly inside the car and listen for a faint little motor as the brake clamps down. Its a simple system but a bit costly if its not working. Check if the auto leveling headlights move when you turn the car on, you should see them aim down then back up when the car is turned on (make sure you leave them on, not on auto, for this test). Im sure you will be looking at the car during daylight so bring a friend and have him take a knee in front of the headlight and look straight into it, even in a sunny day you should be able to see the light aim down then up. There is a cheap do it yourself fix if they are not working so its not a big deal, although a dealer would charge over 1k to replace those. Open the trunk and lift the cover for the spare tire, check for any water down there, if dry, check if the brackets that hold the battery are not rusty, if they are then during heavy rain some water is finding its way into the trunk, most likely due to a clogged sun roof line or a tear around the weather strip on trunk lid, both of which are easy to fix but you might be able to complain and get the price to drop a bit. If its got navigation check what DVD version is in there(located on trunk wall) if its a 2007 or 2008 version then your navigation might have some trouble finding recently built places, streets etc. A new 2012,13 Navigation DVD is not cheap, about $110.00 dollars. If im not mistaken all STRs come with adjustable pedals, on the side of steering wheel there should be a little knob to adjust those pedals and steering wheel. The steering wheel adjuster almost always works but the pedals tend to break a bit more often, make sure they are moving in and out. Cant think of anything else right now, ive owned an 03 STR and now own a 05 STR and those are some of the things ive learned with these cars. Best of luck!

You are due for a transmission service or soon will be. Maybe see they will do a transmission filter and oil change to make the sale?

Jaguar lists it as lifetime but everyone pretty much agrees it you want to change the fluid somewhere above 60K miles.
