Looks pretty clean but at that price I'd pass plus the accident would make me nervous too.

Good to see it looks that good at that mileage but then that might be because a lot of the car has been repainted? Black interiors always do the best but they're too GD hot for me.

If I could get that car for 5 I would buy it, and drive it on long trips only, and see how high the miles will go before it is really messed up. If something major breaks on it, don't put a dime into it...either sell it for whatever you can or just toss it at that point. Thats what i do with my caddy. Anything major goes on it, its going to the junkyard

It'll bring 6500-7000 at the dealer auction. 5k isn't happening.

Ironically, if something were to break, the parts would be worth more than the whole.

Just off the top of my head, the wheels and tires are worth 1k. The headlights are worth around 600, Brembo brakes are 500 if it has them. Nav screen and drive are worth 600, S/C is worth 350 as a core. Then we get into the body panels, the entire interior... Down the line. If you had the space and inclination to part it. You could do really well with that car.

Although, in all fairness, if you don't completely neglect it. Change the oil regularly etc, I bet you get 150k + out of it relatively trouble-free.

Take care,
George

George stop thinking like that..... parting the vehicle out.

Everytime I see this thread in the "new posts" I keep hearing the song by Super Tramp, Dreamer!!

George isn't dreaming. I know of a few here who would immediately buy from a parted out STR...including me. It's definitely concievable one could make 2X or 3X from the original cost of the car. Salvage yards do this everyday.

One thing that worries me is the dealer mods. See sticker on auction. Jag dealers tend to keep these minimal because of the resale value. Makes you wonder why it was a mod instead of a usual part/service? The 05's are known to have a faulty coolant reservoir: that coupled with the aluminum block and the chance to overheat in the Florida sun makes one wonder? The blocks are easily warped without proper coolant and the heads may have been refinished. Just a thought...

I did not mean that George is dreaming.

What I meant by the song is the seller of the above vehicle. Way to much ching for a high mile vehicle, especially a repainted one.

If you do buy it and part it later I got dibs on the front bumper and front belly pan. That is if you dont charge more then I've already been quoted for over 1K. Wish I could find one cheaper at least the front bumper for well under that. Sucks having an 05 sometimes cause I find 03-04 front bumpers all day long on ebay but never an 05+.

ajmainevents, thankfully the STR computers have fail-safe sensors to warn or shut her down to ward off catastrophic failure...but even with these in place s*&t happens.

Is the STR actually any good at that? It has no CHT and the ECT is not really in the best place (arguably). That only leaves the EOT, doesn't it?

C=cylinder
H=head
T=temp

E=engine
C=coolant
O=oil

You guys really think a 110k mile jag is ready for the junk yard? I know Mercedes guys that look for cars over 100k to get a deal since it's pretty common to get 300k out of one.

I agree the price is a little high. I am looking at an 03 with 90k miles should pass since it's 10-20k from scrap?

You know me guys... Just trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents.

Personally I think a 110k mile STR will be perfectly fine till 150k and beyond unless it's been neglected to all hell.

But that being said, if I did have one, and something cost prohibitive to repair broke, George's Chop Shop it is LOL!

Take care,

George

I would pass on the 90k mile 03 for sure. For 7k more you can get an '05 with 40,000 less miles.

And the 05's look sooo much nicer. Ian Callum personally saw to that in the redesign of the 05's and up.

Well that's pretty subjective. While I like the looks of any STR, I prefer the older ones with fog lights and Brembos. To each their own. And while the car may go for another 100k miles that doesn't mean it's worth $15k.

*edit* I forgot to add that I really do prefer the gauges in the later STR's as opposed to my 03. They look much classier.
