Default 20" on STR ?

Have anyone installed 20" on STR without any rubbing issues? if so what are your front/rear wheel widths and offsets; also tire size used.

Thanks!

i'm thinking of making a custom set of one piece forged design based on the "Jupiter" style wheel. The stock rolling diameter is around 25.7" but i would like to go up to 27" if there is no rubbing; this is the stock OD that Jag uses on their stock 20" for the xjr so i thought it could work.

I would advise against it because the ride quality and handling will suffer. The STR is designed for 18" wheels for a reason.

Ahem** I don't agree with you Sir! Plz look at the the OP's other thread on "lowering springs", I have 20's on with H&R and they work perfectly, smooth ride, handles like a true race car should handle.

Cheers!

jag79,

Lucky devil, you live in FL where you don't have to deal with potholes out the ying-yang. macc2t lives in Canada where weather will be a factor. The roads will likely have potholes as well as the snow and ice typical of Canadian weather. The package you have probably works pretty well for FL but I'm not too sure about Canada. The 20"s will offer more cornering power but will likely be less forgiving than the stock 18"s at near the limit. Maybe the answer is to run the 20"s during the summer and 18"s during the winter.

LOLzz...I totally forgot that person lives up in Canada. Yeah you right, if you go with the 20's, they will be vulnerable to bending the rims if you hit any pot holes, or even go toooo fast on a speed bump That he has to take into consideration if choosing the 20" wheels Of course he will have to weigh in the Pros and Cons of having 20" with or with out H&R springs.

Cheers!

We unfortunate souls who live in more northern climes know all about potholes. My morning commute is particularly bad because it's also a truck route so the road is really rough. Even my S-Type with the 17" stock rims is a bit on the rough side. My Audi is a bit softer, but the downside is that it's not as comfortable or as fast. When winter comes, the Audi will be used extensively while the Jag stays safely parked.

I don't know, I am actually afraid of installing 20's on it due to performance. I was thinking of installing my 22" Asanti I had previously on my 01' S-type 3.0 on my 07' STR when I first bought it but second thoughts came around and dnt want to deal with potholes and always being extra aware about being stolen or hitting a curb.....ouchhhhh and performance lose.

22"? eek. But they'll be too narrow for an STR anyway, I'd think. Front 8", rear 9.5" rims. A tire calculator will show you what tiny profile you'd need (may not actually be sold).

u can fit 20 inch no problem 20x8 & 20x9 in the rear.. tire size 235/45r20 or a lil lower profile wich would be 235/30 i think so.. just buy a good brand of tire and u should be well off in my opinion

Those would not be OEM for the S-Type. 9 is wrong for the STR. The offsets may also be wrong. 235 is way too narrow for the STR rear. 235/35/20 is an inch too big. So, too narrow and too big.

The first blowout you get may be your or someone else's last. Don't do it.

Over here you'd also invalidate your insurance.

I'd make certain the load rating is adequate.
What about the weight of the wheel & tire combo of the the new versus the oldl as well.

But what is the fascination with having such over-sized looking wheels?
Makes it look like you're driving a Conestoga wagon or something.
