Arrow 2000 & 2004 S-Type Transmissions....

hi guys.
Just a quick questions.
I got a Complete 2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 that i'm using for parts, and im looking to buy a 2004 S-Type that has a bad tranny & some undercarriage damage. (ran over the curb maybe?)

My question is: is 00 & 04 Trannies interchangeable?
I know that the body stayed the same, (only the interior changed), wondering if tranny is same... :\
And same goes for suspension etc etc...(stuff that's under the car)

Thanks guys...

The body did not stay the same. Many changes.

The trannies are wildly different, with utterly different computer control. No chance of doing what you suggest. (BTW, there are about 4 trannies, auto/manual/etc, but still true.)

Actually, the 2004 and 2000 are very different beasts. To answer your question regarding the transmissions directly, NO! The 2000 has a Ford 5R55 transmission and the 2004 would have the ZF HP26 transmission. The Ford is a 5 speed where the ZF is a 6 speed.

Furthermore: The 2000 to 2002 (US model years) S-Type is almost considered it's own car.

The basic flow is this:

2000 to 2002: First introduction of the S Type. US powertrains: 3.0 V6 (Ford) 4.0 V8 (Jaguar) V6 offered 5 speed manual as an option. Otherwise Ford 5 speed auto trans. Ford based climate control and audio electronics. Had teething pain issues regarding quality (also affected the sister car, the Lincoln LS).

2003 to 2004: Major overhaul of the car. US powertrains: 3.0 V6 (Ford) 4.2 V8 (Jaguar) in both naturally aspirated and supercharged. Moved to a ZF 6 speed auto trans. with the 5 speed manual still offered. Moved to Jaguar climate control and audio electronics, hence the new dash and console. More importantly, the suspension and unibody were drastically altered resulting in much improved quality (the Lincoln LS also received a similar update / less the dash change and transmission change) but still retained the same outward appearance.

2005: Body revision. New hood, decklid, quarter panels, tail lamps, and front and rear facia. Suspension bushing change as well, but other than that the drivetrain, suspension and interiors remained the same. The 5 speed manual V6 is dropped.

2006 to 2008: Brakes changed to single piston on the base cars and the Brembo brakes were dropped from the supercharged R. The supercharged 4.2 gets variable valve timing. On a side note... The R losses it's body color rear trim on the decklid and gets the chrome strip from the other cars.

There are a great more details in the changes but that sums it up quickly.

Hi there JagV8... For the OP, since he is in the US, the 04 would still be the same body as the 03 and under. Remember, the US didn't get the revised body until the 2005 model year. In my other post I kept the years related to the US..... Didn't even bring up the fact that the S Type really came out in 1999... Every other time I list both Europe and NA years it just gets every one confused....

I was guessing (risky, I know) that he was including chassis in "body" - and I was meaning the many chassis changes which for you were 2003+. If he didn't mean to include chassis then of course you're right (as far as I know).
