2000 Jaguar S Type 4.0 V8- Keyless Entry Remote
The unlock button on my keyless entry remote for my 2000 Jaguar S Type 4.0 V8 was not functioning, but the rest of the buttons did. After a while, I couldn't stand the inconvenience, so I decided to buy one of the OEM remotes off eBay. Did my research on programming the remote, but found no luck, but I still shoot for the purchase, hoping that the programming procedures would be the similar to other vehicles. After the remote arrives, I've tried to get the vehicle in programming mode numerous times, but failed. (Proved, 2000 Jaguar S Type vehicles must be programmed professionally by dealership or other sources)
But after the failure, I decided to pop open the remote to see what the actual problem was. After cracking it open, I found out that one of the small square "Push Button Assembly" was not functioning properly, because of the moisture collected in there for years.
Solution was, I pop open the remote I bought off eBay, and took the "Push Button Assembly" to replace the one that's in-op. If you have the same problem, try my method before going to the dealership to get a new remote and programming running at about $200 bucks.
Things to be cautious with during the replacement is
- Make sure the "Curved Plate" at the very bottom of the "Push Button Assembly" is facing the right way. To check, just simply push the center of the plate, and it should go down/click.
- There's two small "Holders" on the side of the bracket on one of the components in the "Push Button Assembly" To brace the bracket, you must face it the right way. There'll be 4 "Silver Solder Dots" forming a rectangle around the assembly, make sure the two "Holders" are on the longitudinal direction, if not, you'll not be able to brace the bracket onto the "Mother Board"
Good luck for those people out there with the same problem that I encountered.
