Gus has written a great troubleshooting guide:

JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Scroll down near the bottom to the links describing cylinder wash problems with Nikasil engines blocks.

First put the accelerator to the floor and then crank it over as it may have flooded.
if that dont work put a little oil -half a tablespoon down each sprk plug hole and then try it as normal.

The v8 engines flood easily if they dont start quickly and do suffer from borewash.
make sure battery is fully charged.

Good luck and report back

Sounds like your fuel pump may be done. What is the fuel pressure at the rail before cranking and after cranking?

Fuel pressure under 42 psi at any point is a problem for the 4.0 engine, including prior to engine start.

The early S Types are notorious for failed pumps (seized) after sitting for prolonged periods of time.

You should also hear a pronounced 2 - 3 second "woosh" sound when turning the ignition to run before cranking. If you don't hear it or it's garbled, your pump is toast.

Good luck

Hello, sorry for the late reply. I finally removed plugs and followed your steps. Still no luck with starting . I check for fuel on the rail. Got fuel there. Not sure of the pressure . Spark is also good. Any other ideas? Maybe a pressure regulator ?

I would borrow a fuel pressure gauge from the big box auto shops that lend tools and follow steps provided in my previous post to determine fuel pressure and rule it out.

thanks for always responding. there's a bleed valve on top of the fuel rail, looks like a valve. should I test the pressure there? do I need to get a special fitting? I think we spoke about 2 years ago on the phone about my timing chain.

Yes, that is where you want to check your fuel pressure. Most fuel pressure tester adapters should work, including Ford.
