I'd guess used will be maybe 1/5 or 1/10 the price. Or buy an entire car? They're cheap now.

+1 on long story... buy used and ensure tensioners are changed if purchasing a 4.0 V8 motor.

Default long story

I have always wanted a Jag...heard that before?. Anyway there it was at an affordable price. $6000+ Drove it (somewhat embarrassed by the power as mileage has always been important to me) but of course loved everything about it! Less than 2000 miles later it shook like crazy when I accelerated. I figured total misfire on a cylinder and nursed it to a straight shooter mechanic. Living on an island reputations are important and known. When he checked it he told me "bad news". Compression on #1 cynd. something like 70#s. He asked me if I had recently purchased it as someone had just replaced a coil on that cynd. I have no idea what he's talking about but he indicated that perhaps I'd been taken. I don't know why he said that but he also said I'd do better to get a rebuilt as his experience has been that if you get a used one more often that not it's not good either. THAT would cause me to become suicidal! So I found your site and am taking heed of your advice. I also have owned and worked on my 65 A.H Sprite and 59 Morris Minor for almost 50 years but one look at that engine and I began to feel old. Domey

Wow! $6K for a 2000??
I know it's too late but that is a very high price for such an old car. Was it low mileage?

Wow, for $6K - I would have thought extremely low mileage, not 90K
