Hi, I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 s type with 150,000 miles.
I don't know anything about these cars so I'm looking for advice.
The owner is asking $2499.00, it does not start but it looks good inside and out. Are there known problems with these cars?
This is the add
I have a relly nice 2000 JAGUAR S TYPE V8 i has a clean title with around 150 k. Has navigation and the Sport package. It needs engine workor maybe just a starter. Has new timing chains, Heads, gaskets. It was runnig fine but now doesnt even try to start. Plates are expired (around $300) just in parts is worth $5000. Bring a tow truck.
Soooooooo........... Any input would be very much appreciatedthanks, rick

Welcome to the Forum. Rick.
I've moved your post to the S type section. The guys there will need more detail.
Does the starter turn the engine over etc. etc.

Well he did say the timing chains have been replaced but the real problem are the tensioners and not the chains. Hopefully both were changed.
The starter rarely fails so I think I would discount that. Does it turn over but does not start or does it not turn over? You could get lucky if the PATS system has been activated and is keeping the car from starting.
Go take a look and low ball him. He won't be getting much interest in it.
Any repair needed has been done before and documented on this list.
So the real question becomes: How good of a mechanic are you??
