2001 / 2002 4.0 v-8 engine (metal tensioners)
Can you guys tell me if the 2002 4.0 engine has the updated chain tensioners ?? I have a 2001 S type, that had a 4.0 with updated metal chain tensionersmounted if place of the plastic ones. last week my wife ran the car in high water and toasteed the engine. Motor can not ingest H2o,
My question is if the 2002 4.0 engine still has the faulty plastic tensioners can i remove the metal tensioners from the toasted engine and bolt on pretty easy on the used 2002 that i found with low miles.
To me it looks easy with the valve covers removed??Thx Scott

Take your VIN to a dealer. They'll tell you if it has had them from new or not. And if the car has been serviced by Jag they will have the data.
The possibility of sellinng you an 18 hour job with a grand in parts will motivate them to look it up.

PS - yes you can tell with the covers removed. If you are doing this to a boneyard motor that will go into the high water car it should be easy. Take the covers off (and the coils) and you'll see it plain as day. Metal body with plastic sliders.

Easy to change if you have the tools, or you want to make them or rent them. Otherwise you're paying for the job anyway. Pull the upgraded tensioners out of the junk motor (save the shorter bolt, too). Maybe you can talk someone into installing those, if you need them.
