Default 2001 Jaguar S-Type V8 running hot? Help

2001 jaguar S-Type V8

When I first turn on the car and drive it for a little while, the temperature gauge starts to gradually go over to the right but once I get where I'm going and the car is shut off and start it again and begin to drive it no longer runs hot at all. Does this mean it just needs coolant ? Any advice is appreciated

Have you opened the hood to verify the coolant level?

If it's not low, then suspect a stuck thermostat.

Don't drive it too hot for long as you can cause very severe damage.

Another thing to bear in mind is the temperature gauge is not a true indication of engine temperature, the engine temp can vary wildly and the needle will stay In the middle, if it goes past the middle you have a problem that needs sorting asap

+1 to police666 - any move above the 12 o'clock position regarding the temp gauge - means you have big problems.

Stuck thermostat, crack/leak in coolant reservoir, water pump issue...

Check it out quickly...

Hmmm, I wonder about these type of posts. Someone joins, bypasses the request for an intro message and posts an urgent request for help, then never logs on again to read the responses (?)

I think it's just the times we live in. I have had to actually tell people to put down the computer and look at your car and open the hood.

Everyone thinks there is a magic button/fuse/trick to fix their car. There is not. The same troubleshooting is needed on a 2013 or a 1952 car.

Usually the next post is how they are not getting any help other than to research the problem. A true sign of the lazy!! Please feed me all the data without me doing any work at all. And it better be right!

+ too damn many.

However, we keep on keeping on.

Recent episode with a couple (family) wanting to get into the Jag world, I told them flat out "Jags are not for you, in fact NO car is for you", asked why, obviously.

"Coz you NEVER EVER open the bonnet and check anything, your current car (no names) has had the CEL on for ever, so you remove the bulb, you never change the oil, wash the car HAHAHA, the laptop is supposed to fix the car due to your questions on some forum????, .........".

Anyway they replaced it with the same brand as now, I am happy.

I remain the "grumpy old uncle", sweet.
