Have you tried SNG Barrett? They listed an under tray for later years on their web site but it might be worth a call to them (800 452-4787) as this part is not the easiest to find on a normal search unless you already know the part #.

Thanks for that, just found it on the SNG website. A bit pricey (£204)

However, I've just found the same part on David Manners website for £96

Sounds like the newer cars have the same radiator undershield and then an extra (larger) one aka belly pan.

Sorry, don't know if it would fit the early cars.

I don’t know about you guys but I get frustrated when things don’t seem to have a logical explanation. The discussion about bellypans is one of those things for me.

I thought PAB raised a great question re: the transmission pan, i.e plastic v metal. Are the Ford pans metal and could that be the reason?

There doesn’t seem to be any other possible consistency such as:
UK v US
V6 v V8

I raised the question about VIN # earlier – could that be the key, i.e. before/after a certain VIN? My VIN is L12308 and my S type does not have a pan (I bought it new).

I guess this isn’t the most important issue in the world but it is a frustrating one for me and I am hoping that someone can shed some definitive light on it for those of us interested.

There must be a logical explanation.

I imagine the 2002.5 / 2003 facelift was the change the reason could have been the plastic pan or maybe an attempt to improve mpg or something else entirely.

On my 2005 model, the undertray does not protect the ZF pan - it is completely exposed and you can service the ZF without having to remove the undertray....

The undertray protects the low-hanging components in the engine bay such as the compressor....

Being called an air deflector I suspect it's to do with air flow. Whether that's fuel efficiency, cooling or what I don't know.
