Default 2001 S-Type cooling fan woes

I've been searching the forums for this particular gremlin to no avail so I'll start a new thread. My cooling fan turns on after the car is warmed up when not needed. On days without heat it will turn on and stay on after the engine is shut off. It will stay on for about 6-7 minutes and then shut itself off. I am open to ideas and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

We've seen this or something similar before but not often. Have a Search and see - be creative with keywords.

The car's trying to protect itself from what it sees is a dubious heat problem. Now, could be genuine overheat or a bad sensor making it look like that or maybe a sticking thermostat, keep an open mind.

It's always a good idea to replace the thermostat on taking delivery of a used car. Cheap insurance and all so I'll get to that shortly and keep the board apprised.
